GAS WAR - an idea that could work?

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.

Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!

Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one) EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300 ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over
THREE MILLION consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further -- THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! ? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

87oct will never be under $1.89 per gallon again.

Boycotting the big one could do something, but you need to have a large percentage of the national population to really have that effect.

It will never work. Being one of the largest gas companies out there, many businesses have corporate accounts with them. The company I used to work for had an account with exxon mobil. We all had exxon mobil gas cards and we all filled our trucks at LEAST once a day with about 25 gallons.

Regular consumers could theoretically stop using them, but many businesses will not. They receive a discount just for using them.

Sorry the party is over for Americans. If you don't buy it the Chinese or Indians will.

You know all that cheap stuff that you buy at Walmart is sending your money directly to people outside the US who can now afford cars. All those call centers and corporations sucking money outside the US. China are buying oil companies all over the world to secure supply. Don't be surprised if they turn off the valve one day.

The guy who wrote this article is a narrow minded idiot.

Now, do you want to hear how I really feel about this?

Other than govt intervention, there is only one thing we can do (and none of us want to do this) that could make a difference: use less of it! If 50 million Americans used just 2 gallons less a week (100 million gallons less a week) - that might make a difference.

Boycotting one brand in favor of another = same consumption = just excessive profits for the other guy= no gain for the consumer.

Guys,

this idea has been floating around the internet for five years. Won 't work. Need to cut back and buy less gas, only thing that will work.

Here's the link to why it won't work:

Bingo. Oil prices are at record highs because of international demand. Unilateral American action can only go so far these days.

Anyone price-sensitive to gas should seriously rethink owning a Lightning.

Sorry, I don't get any. Bottom line, they have that exact e-mail from 5 years ago word for word, and why it won't work.

I have an idea! How about the greedy f.cks in the federal government stop spending $600.00 for a toilet and start paying into the social security plan that they so greedily take out of so it doesnt cost mr. and mrs. average american an arm and a leg to get by in life while congressmen, senators and everyone else in D.C. are sitting pretty on their a$$es getting rich off our hard earned dollars - Thats where the real problem is!

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer - aah the American way (of screwing your fellow man)

99% of the readers and people who post on these boards are hard working middle class people who are doing their best to just get by and yet the price of crude oil keeps going up because some greedy excecutive needs a 4th vacation house somewhere and refuses to take a pay cut from his seven figure salary all the while making some kind of back room shady deals with someone so he can get a raise next year.

I love this country and serve it every day but I am disgusted by the greed and politics that go on here.

Something needs to be done soon or we will suffer greatly. Fuel prices have risen on average .60 cents per gallon in the past 1 1/2 months

(rant off)

Good luck! Higher gas prices = higher tax.

Or rethink driving it. I have resorted to driving a 96 Honda accord and drive the Lighting on weekends. Thats what we'll all have to , like it or not. Go and get a gas miser for your everyday driving, and IF you can afford it, garage the Lightning.
