20inch rims
Hey,
I saw you guys talking about changing the rear end. Someone said sal the chip guy could fix the shifts and spedo. What about larger diameter wheel/tire changes? Like a 20in rim with say a 275/35/zr20 tire? Just wanna see if everything can be recallibrated. Thanks

I think that would actually be a smaller tire, on a larger rim. The 275 part is how wide the tire is in millimeters, and the 35 part is how tall the tire is compared to the width, in this case, it is 35% as tall as it is wide. Just thought I would metion it incase you didn't know.
I think he can configure for any 3.xx, gear ratio, but there has been good discussion on whether or not he can calibrate for 4.10s. I assume he would have to adjust the value of the rear end ratio to compensate for the tires. Try and do a search on the subject.

Agreed with Tundra.. if u go with that lo pro a tire, i sure hope ur truck is dropped alot. Otherwise it will look strange.
I have 20's on mine.. I think that u can have the speedo recalibrated. I still havent done mine yet tho. All u have to do is take the truck to the dealer and they can do it.. I think with the 98s and 97 u can just change a gear in the tranny to fix the speedo error.. The new ones (99-00)r done by computer.

Here is a photo of a F150 with 20 inch wheels. If you go this route on a Lightning you could not drop it enough to close the gap between the top of the tire and the fender lip. You would look like a 4x4. See the attached photo.

Thanks for the replys. If the total diameter of the tire/rim combo is close to the same as
stock, or a little bigger, I figure Just drop the truck to close the gap. The pic of the red F-150 with the 20s I have actually seen in person. I had my Impala in the detroit autorama at cobo this year and it was there. Kinda cool looking truck, however they didnt lower it at all. I guarentee a lightning with 20in rims/lowerd like 3/4 or 4/5 would look amazing. But as long as the speedo can be callibrated thats what im concerend with.
Thanks

Since I took the photos of the two trucks I know them pretty well. Yes I think that you may be able to pull off a 3/4 drop. With a 4/5 drop you will be close to being into the bump stops and as you know how the Michigan roads are I would think that you may take off the lower portion of the front Fascia. Good luck, I like the low look too.

I would not do a 4/5 drop on Michigan Roads, as BABolt said you be very close (if not "on") to your jounce bumpers. A 3/4 drop will close to, but it would look good enough to live with if you stayed out of the rough stuff.
