Cool Northern Arizona Trip--Final Itinerary

Here is the final itinerary for our 1st Northern Arizona trip May 6-7.

There have been several changes made particularly at the very beginning of the trip, so please make note.

8:30 AM; meet at Denny’s located on the South side of Bell Road, just West of I-17 and East of 29th Avenue. There will be plenty of parking on the West side of the West of Denny’s.

8:30-10:00 AM breakfast at Denny’s.

10:00 AM, depart from Denny’s and we will head West on Bell Road until we reach Grand Avenue. We will make a right on Grand Avenue (which becomes U.S. Highway 60) to head Northwest to Wickenburg.

10:45 AM, Arrive in Wickenburg (restroom break if necessary). From there we will get on U.S. Highway 93 and take this till we reach the Congress turnoff. We will take State Route 89 to Yarnell.

11:15 AM, stop in Yarnell at the courthouse to meet Zonaman. From there we depart and continue North on State Route 89 to Prescott.

12:00 PM arrive in Prescott and part at downtown square. Walk around the town square for 1/2 hour.

12:30 PM Lunch in Prescott. I know of a nice Italian food restaurant.

2:00 PM depart and head North on State Route 89A to Jerome.

3:00 PM arrive in Jerome, have a beer (only 1 beer everyone!). Now, here will be the tricky part: With 10 Lightnings it may be very difficult for us to all be able to part, so depending on parking availability we may or may not be able to stop and visit in Jerome.

4:00 PM depart Jerome via State Route 89A to Sedona.

5:00 PM arrive in Sedona. Line em up at the airport for a nice photo shoot. ADP, you can coordinate this part?

7:00 Dinner and drinks and stay the night at the Days Inn.

Sunday May 7th.

8:00 AM breakfast.

9:00 AM depart Sedona and head North on State Route 89A on the switchbacks and up to Flagstaff. For those of you who have not taken the switchbacks to Flagstaff, this is a very twisty and turny road, please exercise proper judgement in driving this portion of the trip.

10:15 AM arrive in Flagstaff, fuel up.

10:30 AM head up to the Snowbowl to the base of the chair lifts.

12:00 Depart Snowbowl and back to Flagstaff.

1:00-2:00 lunch at Granny’s Closet or Fiddlestix or Bunhuggers?

2:00-3:00 PM head down Lake Mary Road to Mormon Lake Lodge (have 1 beer with the local good 'ol boys).

3:00-4:00 PM head South to State Route 87 and then to Strawberry, Pine and have dinner in Pine.

4:00-5:30 PM dinner.

5:30-6:15 Depart Pine and head South on State Route 87 to Payson.

6:15 depart Payson and head back home heading South on State Route 87..

7:45 arrive in Phoenix.

I will be bringing a digital camera, 35 mm camera, tripod, camcorder and a pair of Motorola Talkabouts.
JoeLightning and Zonaman will also be bringing a pair of Motorola Talkabouts.

This will be hopefully the first of trips to come.

Just a few guidelines for the trip:

 I would like to ask that everyone would maintain a casual driving style for this trip (we all know what are Lightnings are capable of and this will not be the event to utilize that).

 We will all form a single lane convoy and have our headlights on at all times.

 We will be using the Motorola Talkabouts to communicate any unforeseen stops.

 Maintain the speed limit at all times, and turn down any drag races that might be provoked by other drivers.

 For those who will choose to have a drink at any of the restaurants, please limit to one. In fact the more I think about it, the more I think we should only have drinks once we arrive in Prescott and will no longer be driving for the night.

It appears that we have a total of 10 Lightnings for the trip.

Well folks, I believe that about sums it up. I truly hope this is a successful fun filled weekend for all of us and hope that this will be the 1st of other trips to come.

If anyone needs to contact me, please email me at home: peteb3@home.com or at work: wijatyk@ftimeters.com if you leave your telephone number, I will be happy to return your call.

A few additional comments: The cardinal rule is Be Safe, Have Fun! Have your trucks "pre-flighted" (adp term) i.e., tire pressures, GAS, coolent etc. Don't worry if cars get between the group, it will happen. Be patient, you will easily catch-up.

See ya, Zonaman

Hey Jim,

Yes, I picked up a pair of Motorola Talkabout model FR60 from Best Buy for $99. The model FR50 pair was $79, but the FR60 gives you the additional privacy codes. All the models will work with each other. Costco had the model 250 (I think) for $69 each.

Neroni,

I hope you can make it at least to breakfast. Since I live in Chandler, maybe you would like to caravan over to breakfast. We could meet somewhere over here on the east side, say 7:45am, and cruise to Denny's
