***Update About Metallic Blue - GOOD NEWS! PLEASE READ!***
Well everyone, all the praying has done good in this world. Today I took Mike to see a Gastroenterologist (GI), and it must have been a godsend. This Dr was the FIRST Dr ever to actually CARE, LISTEN, UNDERSTAND, AND HEAR what Mike had to say. He asked him very thorough questions, covering every sort of topic you could imagine: physical, mental, emotional... EVERYTHING. When he described all the symptoms to the Dr, he said that they all point to Crohn's disease. It wasn't diagnosed, but he said he felt strongly that it was Crohn's.
He set an appointment up with radiology at 2pm today (or yesterday, whatever- it was the 2nd), and to have him drink Barium so they could see his intestines and stomach in the xrays.
The procedure took about 2 1/2-3 hours. After many painful turns onto his back and stomach, the radiologist dr said he saw several abnormalities, but didn't acknowledge at the time what it was exactly.
We left, and got on the interstate in our lil 1994 4 cylinder pontiac ga daily drive (hehe), and our cell phone rang. It was the GI doc, calling to tell Mike EXACTLY what is going on with him.
He has an extremely SEVERE case of Crohn's disease. There is significant damage to his intestine, about 2-3ft worth, but the dr said it is reversible with meds.
SO.
This may sound kind of unusual; but we are both very relieved that it is Crohn's and not something more serious. We know it's treatable, and Mike is very happy knowing that he can finally have his normal life back, and so am I!
The one thing that upsets us the most (him more then I) is that this problem started a LONG TIME AGO, when he was about 13 or 14 years old. He had mental problems, physical problems, and emotional problems all the way up to the present, all of which were caused by CROHN'S DISEASE!
He has been misdiagnosed for YEARS. This has seriously pissed him off, because the whole time he had this problem and no one even looked for it or had him tested until TODAY. How can it be misdiagnosed when you have a "fistula, a fissure, AND an abcess in your @$$ and say it's nothing, go home and rest and deal with it," ?!?! Can you say MAJOR LAWSUIT? This won't happen until Mike is completely better, which will take some time, but it WILL happen.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for praying for him, and also to let you all know what has happened. We both appreciate this so much. Thanks again.

Thats great to hear. I really hate it when 'professionals' do not care to listen. Thats is one thing I try to do, even though my profession is being a 22 y.o. kid. I am glad they figured it out, finally. I hope he pulls through.
I had a similar situation, but with a school nurse. She couldn't find my shot records, or was looking at the wrong ones, so she told me to get my shots or else I wouldn't be let into class. I told her I just had them, but she insisted. Well I went and got more shots, and when I showed her the papers, she told me she had me mixed up with another student, that I was fine to begin with. That made me really mad. Then you have the patients that have to have a leg amputated, and wake up with the wrong leg gone.
I am glad to hear Metallic Blue has his health under focused light, I mean atleast he has an idea of whats wrong. I hope the best

Great News!!!
i lost respect for doctors when they let my older brother become one (he used to beat me up)
, but he's turned into a pretty good one, and sits on a board to determine malpractice.

Glad to hear things are looking up !!
Sometimes just knowing what the problem is, is better than not knowing. Glad to see they have confidence in thier ability to help. Often these types of things go for years before there are enough symtoms to properly diagnose.

It's always better to know what you are fighting. Persistance paid off. Now forget about the fact that it was misdiagnosed for 400 years and get well. Your mental health is as important.
Hurrah!
We are with you in spirit.

Fantastic news!! So glad to hear it. This morning as I was in the shower, I was thinking about Mike again, and hoping and praying that his condition would improve. Once again, very glad to hear the news and I wish Mike the best of luck to a speedy, treatable recovery.
Outstanding! I'm sorry Mike is ill, but I am rejoicing that he is at least diagnosed and can be treated to live a normal life again.
Good luck and remember:

GREAT TO HEAR!!!!! this kind of doctoral screw up is way too common for what they get paid!!!someone i went to school with had some problems ever since he was a kid ,out of breath when he did physical activity and other various ailments...no doctor ever could tell what was wrong with him..all tests were normal...anyway when he was around 20 he went skiing and fell..something was really wrong with him then ..he was vomiting and had really bad pain.the slope side firstaid had no idea what was going on so they took him to a hospital in VT. The doctors there couldn't tell what was going on either so they flew him back here to CT.After x-rays they found a sist(?) that was growing on one of his kidneys ever since he was born..it weighed 22pounds! no lie i saw the pictures...the sist started to rupture from the fall and was poisoning his system ...If that sist burst he would have died right there on the slope, and all of this because of lazy doctors...i don't know about you folks but that really scares me!
He is on medication, and the 2 kinds he is taking are called Prednisone, a type of steroid, and Azathioprine.
Azathioprine, works by blocking the immune reaction that contributes to inflammation, and are particularly effective for maintaining long periods of remission.
Prednisolone is a synthetic adrenal corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are natural substances produced by the adrenal glands located adjacent to the kidneys. Corticosteroids have potent anti-inflammatory properties, and are used in a wide variety of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, colitis, asthma, bronchitis, certain skin rashes and allergic or inflammatory conditions of the nose and eyes. There are numerous preparations of corticosteroids including oral tablets, capsules, liquids, topical creams and gels, inhalers and eye drops, and injectable and intravenous solutions.
Unfortunately Crohn's is not "curable" but it is treatable. This is a chronic disease. Sometimes the symptoms can go away for years, however.
Thanks again everyone, for your thoughts, prayers, and suggestions.
PS- ROUSHFAN- Mike said that once he gets better he'd like to get together with you and meet you, along with anyone else that lives in the CT/MA area!
