Question Drag Strip Tips Wanted

Hello Everyone,
I need some help regarding tire pressure
for the drag strip. I've been running
about 30 psi the last couple of times
I took my truck to the strip and my best
60 ft. has been a 2.19. Stock Good Years
ofcourse. My best quarter mile is 13.71 @ 101.6 mph and this was done with a PSP filter kit and SHM chip. I did
beat a Firebird (LT1) on that 13.71 pass
but this truck should be running
quicker than that. Any suggestions ?
Rob

Depending on how well your truck is hooking up and how good your chip is is really the factor of racing.13.71 isnt bad by any means.I would suggest doing a very light burnout.about 4 seconds long not bringing the revs any higher than 15-1700 while burning out.Lay into the throttle easy and then nail it.I have not yet had any luck with powerbraking it at take off.

Thumbs up

RobG,

I went-a-floggin (drag racing) last night with my "L." Here a synopsis of of my best run and what i did/didn't do.

Air Temp: 71 to 66 degrees (range during evening)
Barometer: ?
Humidity: Low (for Indiana)
Tires: stock F-1's with 8K miles
Pressure: 36 lbs. (all four)
# of runs: 5
60': b/w 2.05 and 2.08
1/8 mi: b/w 9.02 and 9.04
1/4 mi: b/w 14.03 and 14.06
mph: b/w 9797.09 and 97.06
boost: 9 lbs max

(2) 1200 rpm launches and (3) off idle
(2) ease on the pedal, (3) STAND ON IT
light scruff of tires (less than 2 sec)
tailgate down 2, up 3
tank <1 1/4, 93 octane gas
overdrive on 2, off 3
Motor warm on all runs. dammit

My "L" is bone stock and ran very consistent even though i wasn't. I really wanted a 13 this trip but will do so very soon

I'm kinda new at this but have helped tune friends mustangs and done some...um...er...stoplight stuff.

Hope this helps.

I don't know how much heat your Stock Good Years absorb when you run them hard, but the number one best tip I ever recieved when racing was to lower my tire pressure. The heat absorbed into the tires expands the air inside causing the tire center to buldg and decrease their contact with the track. To make up for that heat you have to decrease the pressure. I have found my best 60-ft times were to be had when my tire were deflated about 35% (35 PSI tire that would mean about 22PSI) Don't take my word for it, Take it out to the track and try it.
