Thumbs up First Session of the season

Just a quick note that tomorrow is the first "test & tune" of the season here in Indy. )

This (and a few other runs) will give me more practice and a good "before" baseline before i start puttin on the go-faster-goodies.

My "bowtie" neighbor is taking his 95 LT1 Dumaro out there also. It is stock with only shifter, skipshift eliminator, headers/h-pipe/exhaust, and battery relocate. I beat him every run last fall in true stock trim in my "rookie" session. 13.98 vs 14.00. He did a dyno Saturday and his #'s are as follows:

"I maxed out at 268.6 RWHP (at 5,000 RPM) and 308 RWTorque (at 4000 RPM)." Maxed? UGH

Since I am new to "legal" drag racing and can't stand to get beat (much less by a neighbor with a Chebbie), how bout some last minute pointers/pep talk from the experienced lot of ya.

Much appreciated,

p.s. I'll post my results

I'll tell you the same thing I told another L owner at the local track. He was running 14.1, power braking it at the line. Told him to just idle at the line. Give it the gas as quickly as it will take it w/o spinning. He was running in the 13's with a best of 13.71 @100.xx MPH, all stock.

99 Lightning black #2022, cd,tow package,bed rug,roll-n-lock, stock
(13.73 @ 99.74)
98 Cobra coupe laser red
best stock et 13.43 @ 103
one run w/ 3.55 gears 13.34 @ 102 no other mods
former Chevy fan still have a few
72 SS454 11.6 @ 116 (slicks open headers)
68 Camaro 12.2 @ 116 (street tires closed exhast)

98_SVT,

Thanks for the tips. I'll give it a try. Too bad us here in the midwest can't flog/race all year long.

Last year I held it slightly above idle (about 1200 rpm) and feathered the throttle just enough to keep it from breaking lose. Basically standing on the loud pedal with a little finess. This was the suggestion i read in MM&FF when Evan Smith did his test.

I'll give it a go. I'm kind of new at "test & tune" and need to work on technique.

Thanks again. every .10 counts.

See ya in the apex,
