Wink Porsche on the rocks, shaken, and stirred violently! ;)

Left work late today. While going home on HWY 59 saw a newer (97-00) white 911 Carrera cut through traffic and go by. I had not yet raced a porsche and couldn't pass up this opportunity. Traffic was medium and it took me a few minutes to get on his tail. He looked up in his rear view mirror and I just knew he was thinking, "what the hell is that?" Just then, the freeway opened up, we were doing about 75 and he made the mistake of flooring it. I was about 5 cars back behind him and put the hammer down on my beast. In all honesty, I was surprised at how quickly I was on his bumper. I changed lanes, pulled about 5 car lengths on him before I let off at about 115. I slowed down to see the expression on his face. This guy must have been really pissed, he wouldn't even look my way to acknowledge the kill. Luckily for me, he had a light complexion, and I could tell I ruffled a few feathers, he had turnes a nice hue of red.

Yeah, i live in Florida see a lot of Porsches,i was going down I-95 i passed him doing 90 he then cought up with me and we went until i hit 110, i was head to head with him, he gave me the thumbs up, i had to slow down cus my exit came up, it would have being fun to stay on though. it looked like a 99 or 00 Porsche Carrear with the whole ground effect and wide body kit.

Funny you should mention it, but I came up behind a new porche today. A nice black one. He was on the phone. I got right up behind him, we were on the belway here in Houston which is three lane. Traffic was light. I see him look in the rear view mirror. Nothing but red truck from hell. He gooses it up to 90. Nothing in rearview but red truck from hell. 120 same thing. He pulls over, I pull up and look over. He won't look at me. I floor it and leave. HA HA big joke. Great sport eh, what?

Just the same I wouldn't put money on a new Porsche beating a Lightning either. I've beaten one fair and square, twice, up a hill and through curved roads. I don't think the non-turbos are too much of a threat, however I'm no expert on Porsches. I only know what I know from experience and from the excellent kills posted here.

Mark W-

You don't have much to be disappointed about. Your's is a turbo, right? The one I ran was normally aspirated.

Cpt1-

In a quarter mile an L vs a non-turbo porsche. My money is definetly going to be on an L.

Nah, even the new Porsche non turbo should pretty easily take the lightning, (if there is any sort of driver). The stock 0-60 times on the new porsches is under 5, and the HP is over 300 now.. not to mention its much lighter. The new turbo is out of the question (awd, 420 HP, 0-60 = 3.7). Still the L for the price and practicality is still damn hard to beat.

And, I have tried (unknowingly) to race a Turbo. He was so far ahead by the time we crossed the other side of the intersection, that couldn't read his plates, just see the word "Turbo" beneath that whale-tail spoiler...
