Stonguard ( www.stonguard.com ) makes a $700 clear-coat protection kit for the Lightning specifically.

Covers the front of the hood, mirrors, bumper, lower bumper and I think the front edge of the roof.

I'm getting my front bumper repainted next week, along with my ram air hood. It's unbelievable how many nicks and scratches I had on my bumper, and I don't even drive everyday. I'm definitely getting that protective stuff afterwards, probably just for the front bumper though.

Cool

Mike,

Your just up the Freeway from me a few miles. If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting your bumper and hood painted and how much is it going to cost?

I'm wondering if my insurance might cover the cost. I was getting on the Freeway a few weeks ago and their was a truck hauling sand in front of me and that is what did the most damage to the bumper & also pitted the window.

Question Bumper Protection?

I thought I had read on here something about some type of clear cover to protect your bumper. If so, does it cover all of the bumper into the fog light areas?

I have noticed on my Black L that there are tons of little white pit marks around the fog lamp area. I also have the "scuff" marks under the bumper that several of you have mentioned.

So my question is, if I go and get the bumper painted is there anything I can put on it to protect it, other than that horrible looking Lightning Bra Ford sells?!?

Thanks in advance!
Jeff

The Stonguard Lightning product at
http://www.stoneguard.com/sgcontent/...MakeModel=2227

looks interesting, but I wonder what the deal is with waxing the vehicle. Is is possible that over time the waxed paint looks different than the waxed urethane film? Also, this like any other surface must eventually yield to the implacable rocks. How is it removed or repaired when that time comes? Anyone have long term experience with this sort of protection? TIA.

Jeff,

I am planning to take my truck in this coming Tuesday for the complete estimate. He hasn't seen my hood yet, but is charging something like $150 to sand and repaint the whole bumper. I figure I'd let him do my new hood too while he has the paint mixed. I am actually doing this through Steve's Detailing in Newport Beach, the body shop is a few blocks down the street but all I know is the name of the guy is Randy. Sorry can't give you better info now, but I will let you know more after Tuesday. Or if you want you can meet me at Steve's on Tuesday morning and we can have him take a look at both of our trucks. Who knows maybe we'll get a better deal that way.

Mike,

Thanks for the info - actually I contacted my Insurance Company yesterday afternoon and filed a claim with them since the damge was caused by a semi hauling sand.

The deductible is $100 - went to the body shop today and they are going to redo the front window, and paint and smooth everything from the window forward.

Also went ahead and ordered a hood and they are going to paint that at the sametime.

Anyone know of any other clear bumper protectors? The Stoneguard sounds great, but not sure I need everything it offers... and $700 is A LOT of $$$ I was hoping to just find a bumper protector.

Thanks!
Jeff

Hi Peter,

That was me... you have a great looking truck! I think we are the only two guys in San Clemente with a Lightning.

I was wondering if you were on this site too.

Drop me an email - info@theroadrunner.com

I have seen it on a couple L's while the owners love it, it does leave a line that would/does collect wax. That is more noticable on dark colors than light

I had the stongard kit installed yesterday. It is not as invisible as I hoped but as long as it keeps this truck from looking like the front of my 93 I will be happy.
