Finally got a race. A LT1 corvette, auto with stock gearing and a KandN and throttle body airfoil. Beat it by 2 lengths in the quarter. I have a superchip in the Lightning which didnt seem to really help much. I then raced a new six speed corvette. I would say about 10 lengths in the quarter. The LS1 had the Lightning all the way. I have been wondering about the stories of LS1 kills by stock lightnings. If the L goes up against a good driver in an LS1 it aint got a prayer. The new corvette has a twin flow air intake as the only mod. I am happy the corvette won because I own both of them but I had higher hopes for the lightning.

Just out of curiosity.
What year was the LT1 Vette?
When you say "stock" gearing, which gear 2.73 or the 3.07 (both were stock, but 3.07 was the option).
What time did you and the LT1 run?
What time did the LS1 run?

I dunno...my kill on an LS1 was against an automatic transmission Vette. I dont think I would be in such a hurry to mess with a 6-speed unit. The 6-speed LS1 Camaro SS, and 6-speed Trans Am LW1 were both .3 seconds faster than me, so I KNOW the 6-speed Vette would be a pretty untouchable unit, with a good driver, that is willing to powershift. I will bet that most wont powershift them, though. But...Like I said, I'm not in any hurry to mess with one.

the hot rod article posted here a few weeks back, pitted the same 2 combatents: a 6sp LS-1 vette hardtop (the fastest), against a new stock "L". the vette ran 13.27@107 vs the "L"s 13.68@99.3, which means: 13.27 % of 3.14 x 107>,13.68+ 3.14<99.3=, ok the way i see it, the corvette won, because it is faster.

The LT1 corvette was a 92. The gearing was the 2.73, we both left the cars in drive. The races were about 10 minutes apart. I thought the Lightning would come closer than it did to the six speed LS1. I was powershifting the corvette at redline. The LS1 was ahead all the way, but I got a really good start. The one bad thing about the six speed corvette is the rear end jumps really bad if you get a lot of wheelspin. The good thing is the tranny shifts way better than a Z or trans am six speed. When I had a Z with the six speed and hurst shifter I missed 3rd gear occasionally but have never missed a gear with the corvette. I dont think there is enough I could do the the Lightning to beat the six speed LS1. Ten lengths in the quarter would be about 1 second I am thinking. The funny thing is when I ran both of them on the g tech , the corvette was only 3 tenths of a second faster and the Lightning always had the quicker 0 to 60 time. Maybe the g tech isnt that accurate.

Yes, 10 car lengths is a lot.

Figuring very roughly a trap speed of 107mph for a bone stock LS-1 6-speed Vette through the quarter, you will travel 157' per second.

Figuring a Corvette is, what, ~16' long... that's about 10 car lengths for a one-second advantage in the 1/4mile.

I've seen most bone stock L's at our track here in Ennis (Dallas), TX run ~13.8-14.2. 6-speed bone stock Vettes are usually 13.2-13.4x.

But, with a few mods, most L's can run this quickly (not as fast through the traps, though).

you can add all the hp you want to the "L" and it's weight and aerodynamics (or lack thereof) will keep you from beating similar modded LS-1's. ours is shaped like a brick compared to the LS1's, which by the way, are shaped like something Ace & Gary drive.

Some how I feel the LS1 comment is directed at me,2 of the 4 LS1's I raced were auto"magics",both kills.2 were sticks,one was driven by a 19 yr old kid.Translation,he was probably not the best driver.Another kill.The last was a 99 vette,I lost that one and I posted here.I will continue to look for the 6 speed's driven by accomplished drivers,I do not fear the LS1, I respect it,but I do not fear it. I like the run win or lose,it's all about the run.

bad pit i have a 99 lightning bone stock it went 13.7 with just a superchip and k/n it went 13.01@104.77. iraced a 6 speed ls1 and whipped him and later i raced a ls1 camaro and whipped him. i know for a fact the lightning can whip em.....
