converter gains for my power level

fellas, i have been contemplating adding a converter for a long time. i can only muster low 1.9s to real high 1.8s with Hoosiers. I'm at the 400/475 SAE rwhp power level, running 8.0s in the 1/8th mile. i've tried everything under the book to get my 60s down-- it is not my launch technique. i am running only a pinion snubber traction/anti-wrap device but I get zero spin up to 22+psi on my Hoosiers. i just think my converter stalls too low. What kind of improvements have you guys seen with JUST a converter change at my kind of power? thanks!

How do you know you get zero spin ?

With the power you are making you are either spinning or your tranny is shot in first. The power has to go somewhere

don't scare me like that dougie nah, tranny seems fine. i think my stall just kicks in too soon (at like 1500 ?). i get essentially zero spin I should say, with my hoosiers. i go faster the more pressure I put in them up til a point of slippage (about 23 psi on a good track prep when the big dogs are racing too I have a couple hundred track passes and it's always been like this since 3,000 miles on the truck (still under 10k). i have had some knowledgeable racer buddies watch my launch carefully. now I can make her spin if i want, not touble with that, just put the F1s on and light em up!

hmm

what are your mods???

I had similar problem with my truck. Best was like a 1.91 60.

Went from a 4 to a 6lb lower and ran 1.78's.

Go figure.

Well I was running 400 -hp and 500 tq on my 2000 and I pulled a 1.84 on street tires at Norwalk. No converter 4# pulley, normal mods for the time. The track was HOOKING and I got lucky.

If you are REALLY making that much power, the torque is either lost in the tranny ( slippage ) or in wheel spin. I cant think of where else it coud be going. Perhaps someone else can help me understand where else the power could be going...

hmmm. well, basically, 4lber, stiege stg 3 port, Troyer dyno tuned chip, FTVB, pinion snubber, 16x10 AR Bajas, Hoosier QTPs, spring clamps, dual single chamber flows w h-pipe, JDM intake kit, MAF extender... she makes well over 400 tq by 3,000 rpm. oh and i usually pully my sway bar for the season which helps a few hundreths.

trying to stay away from the 6lber for now since I race so much. at least until i get headers.
