Exclamation Curious about tapping noise 00 lightning

Hello I am new here, on friday I bought my white 00 lightning it now only has 200 miles on it and it makes a tapping sound from the engine at idle in park its not real loud do any of you have this type of noise just wondering should I be worried?? I am a Tech at a Ford dealer and I know the reg 5.4 does not make this noise but we are not an SVT dealer so I have nothing to compare it to thanks

Hope this doesnt discourage you mine had a tapping noise from day one.722 miles later new engine installed after 23 days of B.S.
I was pissed at how the dealer handled this. The noise was very small at first, one morning it got so loud it was louder then the radio.Everythings ok now, FORD gave me a E.S.P warrenty for free thats the least they could do.Ran my lightning threw a underbody touchless car wash and I picked up a fan belt noise used WD-4D on the belt and got the chatter belt noise ---tapping noise to go away.Good luck SAMPSON

thanks for your reply samson i am at 750 miles and the noise is still there not really any worse but it makes me nervous. I called the 1800fordsvt number and asked them about it and the guy told me he had never heard a lightning run. I couldnt belive this so i guess i'll call ford and start complaining again thanks for the reply

1800 svt ......The people at that # are as usless as a screen door on a sumarine.Everytime you call them you will get a different answer or no real answer at all.If they are going to use this # for questions,They should have friendly ,aware people. All they really have is a bunch of idiots there.Of the Many times Ive called about numerous things,I only got one 'kid' who actually tried to answer me truthfully, not just brush me off the phone!!Im sure he will be fired soon That # is a waste of time.

Qwkpny,

Don't get paranoid. You did not buy a Lexus. The engine in this truck is noisy.

Calling Ford complaining about "tapping" noises, is a waste of your time and theirs.

If you really think something is out of whack, take it to a competent mechanic for a diagnosis. Don't even bother with the dealership.

Otherwise, drive the snot out of it, and if it explodes, there must have been something wrong.

Cool

I had a clatter in mine at 3k RPM when cold and 4k when it warmed up. Sounded like lifters used to sound in pushrod engine. After 6-8 trips to 2 different dealers I had carbon diagnosed(ya right) and accessory noise(heat shield vibrating, rubbing, noisy alternator, whatever). I highly doubt it was anything critical as it lasted for over 8k miles and anything with that much torque and HP woulda' thrown out the problem. Fixed it last wednesday by trading it in on a new one, their problem now.

Qwikpny,
Don't be alarmed. After a couple of hundred miles, mine was making a slight ticking noise at idle till it warmed up, I thought the worst (the piston slap). The noise went away completely after about 1500 miles. Go figure?

Mine lasts about a minute in the morning and then it is gone. The dealer where I go said that this is a normal condition.
I still am not convinced.
