Question Need Some help with CD Changer

My cd changer cartridge is stuck and will not eject from the unit itself. The head unit says MECH ERR. Anyone have any ideas before I am forced to to go seek Fords help, which BTW scares me after having my oil changed today. But thats another story

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Eric

Had this same problem, the CD cartridge is bad and there is a newer model. Only dealer can do. Lucky for me I knew the Radio tech that does this for Ford here in Houston and he did it for me while i waited. You will need the newer CD Cartidge.

Cool

Did you put a home made CD with the stick on label in? Those stick in these players. If you did, open the sliding door on the player, use a flashlight and if you remember which slot its in or the last one you played the numbers are labeled on the cartridge. Use a pocket knife or a small screwwdriver to gently work the CD out of the player(in the direction away from the drivers seat). Don't force anything. Good luck. I've used that a couple times 'til I wised up about home burnt CD's.

My changer stuck and the stereo shop told me to take a credit card and push it down the side of the cartiage and the side wall of the unit and that would release it. It worked.Good luck Don

In the 2000's, our CD changer is a Clarion, not a Pioneer.

One thing to think about is that the CD Changer is made by Pioneer. If you can find a car stereo place that can get this out for you, it will probably be faster and maybe even cheaper than going through the dealer. It never hurts to ask.

Strohm,

Are you sure about them being made by Pioneer? I just bought new cartridges for mine and they are made by Clarion. Is this in a 2K model? Did they change the manufacturer?

Just wondering....

Cool

Just a thought..press down firmly on the cartridge. Then try and eject it...the door is slid open all the way..basics but you know it could happen.

They are made by Clarion. Look down at the magazine and see if a cd is stuck in the unit, or all cd's are inside the magazine. If they are all in the magazine, you can "pop" the magazine out by prying on it with a small prybar or screwdriver. You may have some "loose change" floating around in the bottom of it preventing it from ejecting. I have seen this several times. Oh, and loose change is not covered under warranty... It's a you pay item..

Talking

Well I tried all these different ideas with no success. Then on Saturday I was just messing with the stereo and switched over to the changer and it worked. So I went around and ejected the cartridge and it came out with no problems. The tray for the #5 CD has a broken tooth on it so it looks like this was causing the trouble. I got a new cartridge and no probs since.
