Exclamation I need help!!

Ok..here's the deal. The other day for the first time since I've owned the truck since Decemeber, I noticed that I don't have a stock lower pulley. I measured it and it's 10 inchs in diameter. It has a chrome like finish. I'm not sure if it's a 6lber or an 8lber or what kind of brand. Any opinons would be great. 2nd of all, how do i know if it's tuned or not. I'm guessing it probably since I've owned it since Dec and have gone WOT numerous times but I would still like to know. 3rd thing when I go WOT the needle on the boost gauge goes way past 10psi, so I'm assuming I have alot more boost. 4th, How would I ever get the truck back to its stock settings if it's already tuned not saying i want to just want to know if it can be done. Should I get it dynotuned?? What do I need to do??? thanks

PUt it on a Dyno..See the numbers first to see if has a program already installed for this obvious lower pulley installed on it. The dyno will tell u if it is tuned or not.

Did you look at the computer to see if a chip was plugged into it?

I personally would get it dyno tuned, that way you know what your a/f ratio is. You could also check the chip(passenger side under glove box) to see if it has an aftermarket. 10" pulley should be 10#'s if I remember correctly 9.75" should equal 8 #'s???
I have the stock lower pulley, have to look for the stock chip. You're welcome to them if you want to go back to stock. I couldn't imagine going back to stock after being mod'd!!

1. sounds like you have an aftermarket pulley on there from the color. i dont know how man lbs. it is, my suggestion would be to call any vendor and ask them for the diameters of ALL there aftermarket lower pulleys. that should get you an answer.

2. two ways to find out if it is tuned. first check to see if there is a chip in the comp. it is located on the passanger side front fender underneath the dash. if a chip is in it you will see it from just looking at it. and the second would be to go to a tuner and hop on a dyno and look at the A/F ratio. if the A/F isn't higher than 12.1 your fine.

3. you are probably right.

4. if you want it stock just by a stock pulley from someone on this board, a supporting vendor, or ford. im sure someone has the stock one just sitting around that they would be willing to sell. if the comp. has been tuned by a flash device call the guy you bought the truck from and see if you can get the tune out of the comp. if it has a chip just pull it out. thats if you want it stock.

if you want to leave it in i would definately get a dynotune for peace of mind.

contact the old owner and see what mods are done to it.

If I were you I would put it back to stock, (remove the lower pulley) take it to the dealership and have them reflash the PCM back to stock.

You can always sell the mods you remove on here, and that should more than cover your conversion back to stock.

yeah

if you are running a 10lb lower on a stock block......tune or no tune, start saving for a new motor.

This is the bad part about buying used performance vehicles. Unless you buy it from someone privately, you will never know what is on it or what is done. Even if they tell you, you can't look inside the motor/tranny/ or rear end.

I would look up under the passenger kick panel and check to see if there is a chip on the computer. If not, there is probably a flash tune, or a tune from a predator or sct programmer on there. I would start from scratch.

Definetely get rid of the 10 lb lower!!!

Alright guys..I just looked underneath the glove box and i found a chip in the computer..masking tape was over it and I didn't want to remove the tape but I saw the chip. I opened up the glove box and behind the glove box I found a gray wire with 2 wire ties holding it against the glove box and i found a tiny chip..on it..it says..rev 1..and the bottom says SCT 2004..so obviously there is a chip huh??? Anybody with opinons now? Should I get it dynotuned? How much is that chip? How much HP u think i'm pushing with the pulley, chip, and k&n fipk2 air filter? Thanks for the input and help!!!

Sup Bad AZZ
I'm sitting here laughing my *** off reading this post
(ok it is late night and I'm feeling fine, so that may play a part)
Laughing because I can see your excitement (reminds me of me, hehehehe)
Take a deep breath and listen to what every one is saying, and that is,

If you have a stock block (which we assume you do) running the size of the lower pulley your running, and yes if it's 10" that a large 8 lb or small 10 lb, (they do vary in size based on who made it, and who claims what it is, hehehe) it could be EXTREMELY dangerous

Ok what that means is hundreds (no prob make that well over a Thousand) of our Brothers have blown up perfectly good (even new) Lightning Motors with stock Rods in them, running that amount of boost.

A stock Lightning Motor (aka stock Rods) has a very clear HP limit, and to be safe that should be kept 400-450 HP. Some run them as high as 500 HP (I did) and some get away with it, but many DONT and motor go BOOM!!
If you have a 8lb -10lb lower and a good tune you Prob have as much as 475 HP but prob are running on a mild street tune with 435-460 HP now, (you have multi programs on that Chip) DONT MESS WITH IT, LEAVE IT WHERE IT IS.

Everyone on these boards will agree the 1st move for the performance minded owner "on a stock block" is Filter Chip N Pulley (4lb pulley to be exact).
A 4lb with a good tuner and todays SCT Chips (or hand held tuners) will get you in the 400/500 club and instantly give you a 12 second Truck. Technoligy has even allowed us to push it a bit more and get away with running a 6lb pulley, (when I say get away with I mean SOMETIMES).

SO to sum this up, it sounds like you got a good SCT chip and obviously a good tune (or yes you would have blown it up by now). You also obvioulsy have differant spark plugs (which is positively NEEDED for that Pulley), and you BETTER BE putting AT LEAST 93 octane in it. Now what you HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DO IS find a Lightning Brother in your area to come over and look at your Beast and figure out ALL THE MODS you have on the truck, and
figure out EXACTLY what lower pulley is on there, if it's more than 6lb get it the hell off quickly (someone on here will trade you for a size you need) then your best move would be to put a 4lb Lower on it and find a popular Lightning tuner, (one that knows Lightning's WELL) and have it Dyno tuned.
"OR"
Put a stock Pulley on it, pull the chip and go back to stock, "if the only other mod is a drop in K&N Filter". You prob wont want to do that after having boost though, so a 4lb Lower would be your best bet. And for the record the sooner the better, and DO NOT stay WOT long or you truly may be sorry.

PS
your current tune will become safer once you switch to a 4lb lower, if anything it'll run a tad richer than it is now on your current tune, if your tune is correct (which I'm going to assume it is since you havent hurt a plug yet), you can prob keep it as is but only after a good Dyno session proves the AF and Timing to be safe, and you will need a SCT and Lightning Tuner to do that unless you can get someone to data log some needed info.

Good luck, please keep us informed, AND CONGRATS AND ENJOY

Thanks so much for the info Rob..Is there anyone in my area that could take a look at my L to see what I truly have. I live off of Flamingo Rd in Davie, Fl. I would appreciate it if someone could help me out and get me up to speed on what I'm really running and what I need to do in person. Thanks again

I can solve all your problems. I can be at your house in less than 8 hours. I will swap my truck for yours. It has a great tune. You can go WOT all day long and it won't hurt it. Also it's loaded with tools. (you may keep them) Also, I will be eternally grateful to you!!!!
