header info
need info from lightning owners.i have a 2002 supercrew 4x4 5.4 that im installing a lightning supercharger on,blower has been ported by stigmier, custom tune by psp,3''CAT back exust,i was wondering about shorty headers.do you guys see an improvement in h,p.under 5000 rpm with them? Thanks

Oh boy...
Yes I've seen significant gains!
Here's the reason why most "claim" they "heard" there is no gain:
Short headers are made to bolt to the stock existing "midpipe and exhaust" That stock pipe has 2 pre-cats and 2 cats in it. The shorty headers removes the stock exhaust manifold bottleneck, however the 4 cats the exhaust gasses must pass through are still present. These cats become the bottleneck of the the freer flowing exhaust and that is why most don't see a gain.
Something to think about:
The Exhaust manifold on a lightning is the same exact one as a regular 5.4L F150! (you'd think the engineers would do some else since we have a s/c forcing air through the engine (giant air pump)
Now, with my set up I've replaced the stock "midpipe" with a custom made one and used HI-Flow cats. To keep it realitively quiet I used hi flow baffles after the cats.
The reason why people recommend long tubes:
Same reason as the most claim they don't see gains with shorty's. The Long Tubes REPLACE the stock "mid pipe." so that bottleneck is automatically removed. Most use Hi Flow cats. I haven't heard of anyone using stock cats with Hi FLows.
SHORTYS:
I use Equal Length Bassani Shorty Headers. They flow great.
There are other Gibson, pacesetter etc..
Here is a picture of some GIBSON (NOT EQUAL LENGTH HEADERS) next to stock manifolds.

Now, can all the Nay sayers about shorty headers Please tell me how the above header, or better yet an EQUAL LENGTH BASSANI SHORTY HEADER, is no more efficient and flows no more air than the stock manifold?
(sorry, but Some bias/ignorances/"I heard"/I read needs to be corrected)
