surprise under the hood JDM/Kooks

I bought my Lightning used (7900mi) back in August. I haven't been able to drive it much since getting it. The previous owner did some mods. Well today I took the truck out for a drive. When I got home I took a look around. I'm looking at the exhaust. I see that there are headers on there. Some how I hadn't noticed before. I knew that the exhaust had been changed but I figured it was a cat back. Nope. It's got the JDM/Kooks headers, JDM cats and JDM Silver Bullet.

I was going to do something different with the exhaust because it's pretty loud. Now I'm thinking I've got something good here and should leave it. What do you all think? When I searched it seemed that people like this set up. It's seems to add good power to a basicly stock truck.

I know I'm a dumb a$$ for not seeing this earlier but I haven't had a lot of time with this truck.

Do I have something good here?

Heck yeah!! Leave it on there. I would just make sure everything was installed correctly and check all the nuts and bolts to ensure they are tight.

Very cool. Like everyone else says, good deal. Something else you may want to give a try. It is possible that JDM has done work on that truck. You can give them a call and find out. If they have, they may already have tunes in their files that are on or have been on your truck. You may also be able to find out a history of any mods that have been done to the truck.
Just a thought...

i'd leave them on there unless its too loud for you. But dont expect too much more power on a stock truck. Maybe another 5-10rwhp

I can say from experience AND FACT the loudness of the exhaust IS NOT from the headers. When I originally went built motor I also went Long Tubes, Hi Flow Cats and STOCK Cat Back, it was as quiet as stock at idle, and had a nice rumble when in it, (but DEF NOT too loud). I then added a Flow Master American Thunder Cat back and man it got louder, "A LOT LOUDER", it was still quiet at idle but had raspy droan I really didnt like when in it. Then I switched to the Double Muffler All Stainless Steel Bassani AND HOLY CHIT MAN IS IT CRAZY LOUD NOW In a way I wish I still had the Factory Cat Back on it with the Headers and HF Cats, but with this power and the cams it's needed and after getting use to it I dont think I could ever go back (although I really do wish it wasn't so loud when I get on it)
The entire neighborhood can hear me &*@#$%@)$%@)$%@()$%@)$

Bottom line
As said KEEP IT
and CONGRATS

I'll keep that in mind.

I now realize what I've got here. I don't want to take it off. Headers are something that I wanted to do on my '98. It is loud. That's not a problem for me but my girl is a bit more sensitive to these things. I like to take my vehicle on our trips, for obvious reasons. If she can't handle the sound we'll either take her Honda Civic, or I'll be riding alone. I'd rather have her with me so hopefully we can agree to crank some tunes or something. I mentioned what I've discovered, so I'll continue to try to make her understand the value of all that noise. She likes the truck. Likes it a lot better than the '98. In the '98 she would yell at me to slow down. In the Lightning she doesn't seem to notice how fast we're going. She recognises the refinement in it.

I will get a hold of JDM. I would like to know more about the history of this truck.

Thanks for the replies.
