Post Reconnecting Pin 70

Took the L in to start the process on getting the intercooler leaking fixed. He put the dye in the resevoir and I am to report back for a check up next week. They said that then they are going to disconnect pin 70 so that the blower/intercooler does not work. This is so it will not leak anymore until the new intercooler comes in. My question is 1)what is pin 70, and 2)how do I reconnect it to still have blower function.

SVT99

The manual calls out "Charge Air Cooler Pump Relay" as the function of pin 70. Pin 70 is in one of the center rows on the PCM connector, 9 pins from the outside edge. Looks like it should be a white and orange wire (says wh/og, could be olive green?). Looks like they are just shutting down your intercooler pump and not the blower.

P.S. The relay is located in the battery junction box, and shows the above wire connected, a white wire going to the pump, a orange and yellow "hot wire", and a red and yellow wire coming from the canister vent solenoid all going to it. They may disconnect the wh/og wire here instead of at the PCM.

Now we are getting somewhere. Can pin 70 be shut down with the removal of a connector or fuze. I doubt they are going to acutually cut a wire or pull a pin out, are they?

SVT99 & Noelvm

Looks like removal of # 106 (20 amp) Maxi-fuse also in Battery Junction Box would kill the og/ye "hot" lead to the pump and could create the same condition as disconncting th pin 70 wire.

Thanks LightningBob, you da man. Noelvm and I took ours in at the same time for the same problem. Thanks for your help. Hopefully they will just pull the fuse and then we can replace it and then pull it out later.

If they were to pull a fuse to disconnect the intercooler coolant pump, would`nt that create more heat in the motor? Considering that the blower will still be spinning.Pulling a fuse will not diconnect the blower, only removal of the belt.

99SVT, I would not allow them to disconnect anything, If you can still drive it leave it be. I went 4 months with the same problem.

I talked with SVT 1-800-367-3788 and was told they knew of a "few" intercooler problems but were aware of no supply problems and thought the wait for a new one should only be about a week. I told him thats not what I was told and I didn't buy this truck to drive it around for a month or so with no blower. Said he would check into part availability as soon as he got off the phone with me.

Either these guys live in a vacuum or they are not telling the truth. He said to call him back or have my dealership call him if they couldn't get the parts in a reasonable (1wk) length of time. All you guys with intercooler problems, especially if you are waiting on parts, please call the above toll free number and post what they tell you here.

When I had my intercooler replaced the second time, they wnated to give me my L back with the pump disconnected, and if the engine got too hot it would shut down the blower (open bypass). I told them that if I didn't have the L back the way I bought it that they had it until it was done!! Then they said I would have to pay for the rental after that day until it was fixed. I DON'T THINK SO! I let them know that this is FORD'S problem not mine and they could pay for the rental. I ended up keeping the rental for about 4 more days, NO CHARGE!

GOOD LUCK

Red face

Ford had better fix these damn intercoolers. In my life I've already shoved a lemon (Caddy Convert) down a dealers throat including attorneys fees and court cost and I can do it again. I would think after all the problems they have had with the dogie cobra that they would prefer not to have another class action lawsuit against them.
As for disconnecting pin 70, I'm not going to allow it. Should be a fun discussion....

Hey FORD, you'd better start pressure testing those intercoolers before they get in the supply system!!!!!!!!!!
