I haven't tried them yet, but there has been some discussion on the TBird site about the following

http://www.performancefriction.com/newprod.html

Apparently this company make varying levels of high performance front and rear brake pads for all types of vehicles.

There was one issue brought up concerning thier offerings, though. The highway grade of linings they make are to be recommended unless you are going to use them in a full race envirnment, as the off-road pads they sell need to get hotter than normal (yeah right, like we're normal) street driving will allow in order for them to perform properly.

It has been said that these pads don't fade under heavy braking, to the point that you may have to let off the pressure under severe load, instead of bearing down further as you would with normal OEM pads. They also claim that he dust from these linings can be cleaned with a damp cloth and nothing more. No more scrubbing stubborn black streaks off the wheels!

This is all propaganda thus far, but if the claims are true, then these may be the find of the new Millenium for us speed freaks.

Does anyone know anything about this company or metallic carbon brake linings? These rascals are expensive in comparision to even Bendix pads, but it seems that the carbon metallic compound should have some of the benefits claimed, and be quieter than normal metallics. How about some thoughts on this? Hmmm?

Cool

After the showering of sparks that resulted from my recent braking at the SA rally, I decided to look into some new pads.

I wanted performance friction pads since most of the racers I know swear by them. The local AutoZone carries performance friction pads, but doesnt have a listing for the lightning. As it turns out, the pads for the FRONT of the Lightning are the same as the front of the F-250 3/4 ton PU (1999) non-superduty when equipped with 4wheel discs.

The rear pads are the same as the expedition.

So, you can get performance friction pads for the L, you just have to know how to ask for them.

Finally, my rotors are cracked like you wouldnt believe and will have to be replaced. I suggest checking them frequently and if you are doing serious racing with a lot of braking involved, look at slotted rotors or ducting.

oh, forgot to mention they were $49.95 for a set of front pads.

A friend of mine told me about some kind of a clear plastic cover that goes between the wheel and the rotor and it is supposed to keep the dust off. Don't have any other info than that. If anyone knows of this type of product, let me know.

I wouldn't under any circumstance put a plastic cover between the wheel and rotor. It's going to build heat up, lots of heat. The rotors need to breath and alot of that air moves past the wheels as they spin, hence the reason we get break dust all over our nice rims.

Just my $.02

Cool

I use VGX brake pads from Summit and they work incredible on my Syclone. The grooved rotors help as well and together they make a great combo.

The above picture is some rotors that myself and a friend machine for any kind of car. They make your vehicle stop great and keep the rotors from warping and cracking as well.

I hope I'm not crossing and boundaries by letting you know about them.

If I have I will remove this post!

Talking

When I posted my "humorous Zaino" post someone replied that they had a product that when applied to the wheels, brake dust would not stick to it. I don't know what it was or WHERE TO GET IT, (thats a come on if I ever heard one, comeon zaino you haven't posted in over a week) but it might be worth a try. Also everyone I know who has put on the carbon matallic from auto zone says they're great.
My .02 worth.

I just bought black magic mag/alloy wheel cleaner...spritz it on, wait a minute, wash it off, and if there are any "tough spots", just go wipe it with a towel...works great for me.

1)I took the time to wax the wheels, with ZAINO, and they are a piece of cake to clean.

2) I have the PF street pads on my Mustang, they are GREAT but they are the biggest pain in the butt as far as dust goes. It takes just two days of very limited driving to gray the wheels up completely. Of course I have the stupidest to clean Mustang wheels, 87GT turbine wheels...
