Talking What happened to all the "kills"?

Every time I get onto this forum, all I ever see is questions about an owner's Lightning or what mod's should be done, but it is becoming more and more rare to see someone post their kills anymore. Is everyone backing down from stop-light races, or just not posting them? I think those are the most fun to read, so if you have a kill (esp. against a Chevy), please post it! Thanks!

Hey there, I have had my Lightning here in Las Vegas for about a month now, and before I got it here, I though this was the Mustang/F-body capital of the world. Since I have had it here, I wonder where they all have gone. Granted I have raced a Mustang GT, and it was the first one I came across, but that was less than a week ago! I have had a stop light with a couple of Z28a and yes I always throw a rev at those things, but I have never really raced one. My friends and I even asked a guy in a viper (rental) to see whats up, but he didn't (know how to drive it?) want to run against a truck. Ohwell, better return that to Alamo buddy.
You'll here from me, win or lose.

I think the word is out. Every time I line up against anything, they look the other way or pretend to be cleaning their nails or something.

Of course, there isn't anyone under 95 here in Sedona. Maybe they forgot what it was like.

Guess I'll have to drive to Phoenix to scare up some competition, right Peter?

Well, where I am from, which is about 20 miles or so north of Houston, races are part of daily driving. Even in my dad's Lincoln Mark VIII, SS's and T/A's are always revving their engines at the line, looking for anything to race. I guess it all depends on the right time and place.

Puss SS,
Ok, I wasn't gonna post this one cause it wasn't very worthy, but since you want to hear. The other night headin home, accelerated slow from the light, went through the gears, then kicked into second with moderate throttle. Out of nowhere this guy gets on my tail, then passes and gets next to me and takes off. It was a Mercedes. I follow him through traffic, several lights later he gets a red and I get right behind. It was a 500 SEC, whatever the heck that is? He nails it, I nail it, had to back off, get into next lane, blow past him, and he is on it full tilt. Once I took him fast, I hammered the breaks and made a U-turn, this way he knew all I wanted was to chase him down to beat him.

adp,
I see alot of Z's, Trans am's, Vette's, etc, here in Phoenix daily and nobody wants to run. I think people are on to us.

Peter B,

I also had one of those 500 Mercedes try something on the highway. It was a 500 SEL. Big ole' sedan. I don't care what is under the hood of that thing, in my book it is slow. From 55mph I pulled him very hard to 100mph and got out of it...then I just laughed as I slowed and he pulled along side of me. What a waste of my gas.

Amen to LQ's comment:

As posted elsewhere, the 12 cyl Benz and BMW sedans and coupes are a handfull for a Lightning.
As to the F bodies and Mustangs, I have to agree that the word is out on the street that Lightnings are at least equal if not quicker, perhaps depending on the driver or the condition of weather or the road.

I am coming up on 11 months of ownership and am amazed at the lack of interest on the part of the above mentioned domestic "current muscle cars" to give it a shot. All street stuff, 0-75 or so, no big drama mind you. I have not been to a 1/4 mile strip yet.

On the other hand, I get challenged by a ton of pretty competent rice rockets and the aforementioned high dollar German cars, so maybe I have to get used to that.

Just one thing, when a T/A and an SS are looking for ANYTHING to run that is where you have to draw the line between, dumb and smart, no class and high class, careless and chosing your battles....T/A-SS or Lightning. We race when we find somebody worthy of the challenge, and when they aren't too scared to get beat by a 4500lb truck. But we don't race JUST ANYTHING. For most of us, it's unnecessary. We already know we are bad, and one way or another so do/will our adversaries

Looking for KILL post, well here in Dallas/Addison I've been made. I stopped by Champs last weekend and pulled up to valiey parking and all I got was you're the Lightning dude, I hear about you all the time, S@#T!

I go inside and start chatting with this elderly gent, I told him that I was on I35 and mashed it to pass a bunch of cars, looked down and was doing 135 and what do I see a cop car in front of a broken down car with a motorcycle cop shooting a radar gun at me shaking his head.

I told him the cop never even chased me, he counters back ya but they got your front license plate, I reply back that's why I don't have a front license plate, stupid cops. Any Lightning owner would of been proud! His next retort was not so cool, he stated that "WE KNOW ABOUR YOUR 3 100MPH PLUS RUNS YOU DID LAST WEEKEND,RIGHT NEXT TO CHAMPS AT ABOUT 1 PM"!

I was later told that he is either the chief of Addison police or the assistant chief of police.

So maybe I'm a little more made than the rest of you, again S#$T!

Did this stop me this weekend yes/no no one will race me anymore, I have 0 I mean 0 takers today.

Yes the street races seem to be few and far between these days. My latest one was against an SS/T, but I take my truck out afterwork almost every night to run the engine a bit. I believe the word is definitely out, and people don't want to get burned in public by a big loud truck. I ran against an older Camaro SS a while back, but when he saw how I pulled away from him he gave up and shut up too. The most challenges I get seem to come from the economy imports aka rice burners, and I think they just don't know any better, you know how they have such a great record running against MINIVANS and such The ones that do know better don't even try, they even give the thumbs up. One time a souped up Honda Civic tried to start something, we were on the freeway at night, I pass him, he gets behind me and shuts off his headlights, only leaving his blue parking lights on as if to scare me with that all show no go BS! The stupidest thing I've ever seen, "yeah let me handicap my vision so I look cool in your rearview mirror." In that situation I didn't even waste my time.

Thanks to everyone who has posted! I love to hear what goes on all across the U. S. and what types of drivers are willing to accept the challenge. It seems that here, the T/A's and Slowmaros only race when they know they are gonna win...like a Metro or something! Anyway, keep posting if you have a kill, or better yet, post anything and everything that remotely relates to racing on the highway or stop light-to-stop light! I love this stuff!
