Thumbs up Invinca-Shield/3M Scotchcal

Invinca-Shield installed its 3M Scotchcal clear plastic (8 mil) protective
film on my black '99.5 today. The installer just left my house. Took him
11 hours to do the job. Needless to say, he took his time and did it right.
He also mentioned that since mine is the first '99 Lightning in the nation
to be fitted with a kit, he needed to make a few custom changes to the
factory's pre-cut design. He will contact the Invinca-Shield factory in
North Carolina (his uncle started the company here in FL) and they will make
some relatively minor changes in all future pre-cut kits so that future
installs will go a little easier. The hardest part was fitting the bumper
and lower part of the front end. Lots of area with many complex curves. He
did a great job. No way would I want to attempt this myself.

The full kit consists of 26 pieces and covers all the paint on the front
end, the front 6 inches of the hood, the top edge of the cab, the forward
window pillars, and the lower side rocker panels. The full kit (there are
also lesser versions) for the '99 Lightning is kit #1537. I paid $560
installed, plus sales tax, shipping and handling (total of $611). A lot of
money, true, but cheaper than a repaint and much less than it costs to cover
a Vette, Porsche, motor home or helicopter - all of which they do, in
addition to all the exotic cars here in central Florida. Invinca-Shield's
warranty is for 5 years, plus they will pay up to $1,000 for any paint
damage after the film is installed.

I will let everyone know how it wears, polishes, sheds bug juice, resists
stone chips, etc. My neighbor has used it for about a year on 3 of his
vehicles and he loves it. If anyone's interested, the Invinca-Shield
website is at: http://www.invinca-shield.com/ and you can also link to
3M's site from there if desired.

Hi Mike, that sounds like a really good product so far. Do you think they thought about doing a full installation over the whole vehicle? Hmm would be kinda cool too. Im interested to hear how it works out. How does it look once it's installed can you even see it at all? Really sounds cool take it easy

Metallic Blue (good name, btw),

Well, I guess you could cover the entire truck but you could probably send your first born to Harvard for a year for what it would cost.

As for appearance, you can see some of the film edges (but not all) but it's mostly invisible. The darker the vehicle the more visible it is, and my truck is black, so I'm sure it would be even less noticable on a red or white truck.

So far, I'm really happy with it. Will report out as time goes on and will keep all posted as to how it works out.

Thumbs up

Sorry for the delay in responding to this, guys. Just saw it.

So far, my Invinca-Shield covering has held up excellently. Waxing is a little more work but not much more.

I can recommend it. BTW, several other L owners on this board have installed the Invinca-Shield kit (including Wyldman). Anyone else have any comments?

Thanks,
Mike
