Talking Yippee! New Black '00 Owner

Picked up my '00 black Lightning tonight! Paid MSRP -- plus a free bed liner.

I spent the last week lurking here reading probably 500 messages -- decided I just had to register right when I got back from the dealership and let you all know what a great help you've been in my decision to join the ranks of happy L owners. You seem like a great group of people -- happy trails.

Well, I've had 2 other black cars and I always thought they were fastest. But I followed the thread about reflection of light, etc and that seemed to make sense too ... oh well, black LOOKS the best anyway.

Actually I swore I would never get another black vehicle -- they look awesome when they're CLEAN. But uh-oh, 5 minutes after you wash 'em ....

I am only going to say it one more time for the benefit of the new members....white is the fastest color. And if I am behind the wheel it's a given. Congrats PJ, and welcome to the board.

Interesting your choice of words. "YIPPEE" The 5,000th P-38 Lightning built by Lockheed was painted RED and had YIPPEE painted across the bottom from wingtip to wingtip.

At 414 MPH it definately proved, once and for all, that RED is the fastest color!

Thanks all for your welcoming messages. I drove to Monterey today (about 75 mi each way)and had a great time.

On the way home, I took the highway over a small mountain pass instead of the freeway. The engine (and everything else) on the car is terrific, but I think the handling is what really distinguishes it. I also have a '91 Nissan 300ZX Turbo (and used to have a BMW Z3 2.8) so I know what good handling feels like, and the L has it.

Anyway, I blew over the summit on the highway tonight at a modeast 80 (in a 50 zone), and, yup, there was a CHP pulled over on the shoulder just ahead of me.

Had just enough time to slow as I passed him, and couldn't tell if he was checking me out or just doing paperwork.

When I checked the mirror and saw that he wasn't immediately following me, I ducked into a convenient side road and went for a little country drive -- just to make sure he wasn't radioing ahead to his buddies. Headed back to the highway when the coast was clear.

So first day in my L, and got off easy.

Be careful out there!

I agree with SVTgirl, white is the fastest and black actually absorbs light, therefore creating more drag!

Cool

Black absorbs light, but also bends time and space, so we can appear anywhere quicker.
