whats the diffrence?
1. Correct
2. Close enough. If you do the math you get 426. Ford didn't want to call it the 426 due to Chryslers Hemi, 427 was being used by another engine in the same family (talk about confusing), so it was settled to call it 428.
3. Wrong! 427 SOHC. In fairness, this is a trick question as it was never placed in a production car. It was only sold over the parts counter. The engine came in three flavors: single 4bbl = 616 hp, dual 4bbl = 660 hp, and there was an extremely rare mechanical fuel injection version capable of 700 hp.
Love that you love FE's. Few do anymore.

When I was in high school, i worked at a ford store. A salesman there had an a-fueler with a sohc motor. FRONT MOTOR! Wow, Im old,as I was up on the sock motor part of your question. Wow, an intake for an FE weighed like 1500 lbs.

I know that the cast iron intakes weighed over 90 lbs bare. I had a 428 PI with the aluminum intake and it still weighed over 40 lbs. Interestingly, the heads for this big block weighed less than small block heads. Most of the meat was in the intake.
Zap, I do agree with you, the 427 Hi-Riser was a killer on the street. Only the 428 CJ had a better reputation. Though in all out competition, the Hi-Riser had the advantage. It is amazing that today they can build a car with fewer cubes and a heavier chassis that will clean the clock on an old muscle car and not sacrifice creature comforts like power steering, cruise control, and air conditioning. Technology is a wonderful thing!

I have old-timers.
