Question Frame marks on spare tire...suggestion

After reading discussions on marks/injury to spare tires from frame contact, decided to take a look. I had the Firestone factory spare mounted valve stem up and already some sidewall marking. I'm one of the "old guys" in the group, so decided to invest a little time (30 minutes) instead of cash. Took a 3 lb. coffee can lid, traced around the lid on the side of an empty 5 gal plastic bucket X 4. Cut out the circles w/ a jig saw, touched up with sand paper. The plastic is thick enough to provide some distribution of frame pressure on the side wall and with the correct orientation, the curved shape of the bucket matches the sidewall. Might save future sidewall wear/damage and it's FREE! In picture disk on left oriented to match contour (mount position), disk on right turned to illustrate shape. Don't forget to flip spare over to allow valve stem access.

Chuckw, very clever innovation.

While reading this I was wondering if cut-outs from an old inner tube might work too. For years in the gym we used them for gripping rough, knurled bars, and you could not where them out.

That should be "wear" them out. Got to learn how to spell one of these decades.

I cut out a big circle of linoleum floor stuff. Cut a radius so the it would slide onto the cable and cranked it up. Total protection all the way around.

I had a long piecec of 5" foam laying around, so I cut pieces out and stuck it to the frame. Works perfect!!
