Question possible negative effects of adding chip

What are the possible negative effects, if any, of adding one of Sal's chips to my L? I'm considering adding one of his chips and his intake kit and I was wondering if the increase in horsepower and torque might subject the driveline to too much stress. Also, can this combination cause any damage to the motor or transmission? Have any of Sal's chip/intake owners experienced any problems of this sort?

One of these guys is having or had prblems with his warrantee when the dealer found out he had a chip. As far as performance, I only hear of the good stuff, except for some of the trucks that need a slightly different program from slight detontation. Take it for whats its worth (my advice) cause I am too broke to buy one.

Cool

Black99,

Here are some negative effects:

1. It costs money to buy the chip and filter.
2. Your truck will run so much better, you will be wanting to race more people, thereby increasing your chances of a ticket.
3. You will spend more in fuel as you will put your foot into it more.
4. You will beat more people on the street making more drivers who lose unhappy.
he he.

In all seriousness, heres the bottom line. A vehicle has been designed for a given configuration. When you increase horsepower and torque, it will inevitably create stresses on components on the vehicle that it was not originally designed to produce. How much of a "factor of safety" has been built in to the Lightning? Only the design engineers at Ford could answer that for you. Anytime you "hop up" anything, you are making it do something that is was not designed to do. All I can tell you is, reading through the numerous posts in regards to the chip and filter, I have not seen anyone to have encountered any sort of problems that you are inquiring about. I have just installed Sal's filter and I currently have the chip on order and I am using the L as my daily driver.
