WOW, is this normal ?

As most of you know I just blew my motor ( the specifics in "add me to the list" in a previous post).

Started taking it apart and I found oil in the mass air, the inlet tube and throttle body. It was pooling in the intake tube. The upper plenum had oil in it and so did the SC. The intercooler was a little coated.....Below the intercooler was standing in about 1/2 inch of oil. It had to be at least a couple quarts. There were about 15 pieces of small broken piston and rod fragments located in the pooling oil under the intercooler.

Next, I pulled the passenger side plugs. They, of course, were oil coated. The two middle cylinders on that side had plugs that about half of the tips were gone and by saying that I mean the part that you gap was burned or broken back almost to the bend.

I pulled the front wheels so i could get to the bottom end and see the damage.......wow. The 2 rear cylinders both were blown out. from the driver side I could see straight through the block to the passanger side. Its almost like the entire back of the block was gone. It looks like it nearly took out the tranny.

I would like to post pics but this site wont let me. Any advice on that?

Now that is interesting, the bad plugs came from the 2 middle cylinders on passenger side. The blown cylinders look to be the rear on both sides. The plugs in those cylinders look good.

Why would so much oil come back through the intake? I wish I could post the pics of the block.

oil

oil pooling in the intake, I/c is common on these trucks. I would say at least the majority of it was there before the motor blew.

My father blew the motor in his 2000 lighting. Same exact cylinders as yours. Same thing, could look right through the motor.

The fragments and oil could have come back up through the valves if they are trashed. And what he ^^^ said also contributes to oil in the intake.

I just removed my intercooler for cleaning, the first time in 95k miles. Actually it wasn't as bad as I thought but it was gummed-up. After I removed the intercooler I cleaned the upper intake. There was about a tablespoon of oil at the back end of the upper intake at the vacum hose outlet. I'd say the amount of oil you found was puked-up from the bottom end letting go. Doesn't sound good for the heads/valves.

Did you have an oil separator?
