Not your typical exhaust/cat - experience needed?

This question may be out in left field?

I am adding a new KB to the '99 (hey I lasted three months this time). I am not adding headers at this point and I am only planning on 14lbs boost. I have a single maggy on the rear and I need to know:

If I remove one cat per bank, leaving one stock on each side does it matter whether I remove the front or the back cats per bank? Front being the closest to the exhaust manifold.

Didn't know if there would be an issue in performance or heat or what, just thought I would ask those that know more than I (which is a hell-of-a-lot of you).

I don't even know if removing one per bank will make an improved difference in flow, but kinda makes sense to me. I don't want to go with highflow or racing cats because of the drastic increase in exhaust note.

Thanks in advance!

Everyone I've ever talked to tells me that the front cats are the biggest bottleneck in the stock Lightning exhaust system. The front cats are what causes most of the back-pressure. If I were going to free up some exhaust on the stock catpipes, I'd eliminate the front cats.

Dan,
I've been contemplating the same thing. There've been a couple of people who talk about gutting the cats and I recall one who cut out the front cats and replaced them with 2.5" pipe. What about the O2 sensors?

Good point on the 02's. When I replaced my stock cats with the Dynatech highflows, they obviously compensated (oxygen). I haven't looked under the L to determine which cats incorporate the sensors. I am guessing by the ? it is the front set.

This may be a mute point for me as I have changed my mind and I am waiting for the 2.6 KB and will undoubtedly go the longtube, route regardless of the exhaust note.

Thanks Runvs for the imput!

I would remove the front cats if it was not an issue.

The O2 sensors (catalyst monitors) are mounted in the pipes behind both sets of catalytic converters.
