Drag Shocks
Removed my front and rear shocks today and did some measurements. Contacted Moroso about shocks for the "L". They told me if I would get the required dimensions for them they would make us a set of adjustable front and rear drag shocks. I now have the dimensions they asked for and will be sending it to them tomorrow. Hope to have something by Friday to tell everyone. Simple enough to get off if you have the right tools. Mainly 18mm and 20mm sockets. The rear stock shock fully extended themselves as soon as I unbolted the bottom. Shows me they are trying to lift rear at all times, not good for traction

1BADTK,
Koni was also gonna make drag shocks for the L. This was several months ago, I never checked back on it. I agree with you some more appropriate shocks would make a big difference. Another interesting thing is when I tried removing the caps from the front coils before, just to see what a difference it would make, and the launches were WAY better as it allowed more weight to bounce back to the rear. Definitely keep us updated. Geez this truck is really eating up all my funds . . .

Sent the information to Moroso who BTW is Competition Engineering, and they have a couple of shocks that might fill the bill. They will let me know today what they deside about the compression rates and the Lightning weights. Looking Good So Far!
Looking in wallet... it's getting thin.. looking at bonus check.. most of its spent.. ya'll are killing me...

I`m loking foward to the answer. Maybe we could get a better deal with a group purchase..

First my disclouser:
"I am going to do this, if it doesn't work well I will just be out the money, if you choose to do it also, don't blame me it if doesn't work for you."
Just got off the phone with Competition Engineering and the shocks we have agreed to try are their C2610 for the fronts and the C2730 for the rears. They are both adjustable and are considered drag shocks only, not recommended for street use. Both can be seen on their web page and the pictures of the shocks look the same as the stock Lightning shocks do. Note extended and collapsed measurements for the above shocks are very close to Lightning's. My measurements were:
Front = 10-1/2" to 14-3/4" for collapsed and extended.
Rear = 15-1/4" to 24" collapsed and extended.
Hope this info is useful to someone besides me

Can Not Order Direct!
There is a page on their site that will direct you to all their dealers in your area. the site is www.competitionengineering.com
I ordered two sets from an online catalog raceing supply store today for 2nd day air for monday. They are hard to fine, hope your local suppliers have them. These shocks are for a 72 Ford Torino and a 69 Chrysler according to the mail order catalogs. CE said they will work on the truck because of its weight and capacity. Remember; "DRAG SHOCKS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE STREET" but I think they will work fine when set in the 40/60 mode front and 60/40 mode in the rear. Cost was $305.91 for two complete sets plus shipping.
Glad to be of some help.
For those of you who read alot but can't remember where you read it, after I install these babies this weekend I will take some pictures for you so you can pass up the opportunity to doubt if they will fit or not, and you won't have to rely or your reading retention.

In stock at Jeg`s, figure I would try them out also. Judging by the weight of the autos there made for I also think they will work. Total was 155.95 for next Wednesday delivery... Andre your killing me...

We will have an interesting comparison at the drags on the 30th. I'm going to try 4 80 pound bags of sand. The idea of ruining the handling of this truck with drag shocks doesn't appeal to me. Maybe they won't. I'm grateful you are the ginny pig.

Cigar,
Hope you don`t mind me saying, but you will be adding 320 lbs.I think that will slow you down .3 tenths IMOP. I also think as 1BADTK stated 40/60,60/40 settings could be livible.

They are indeed liveable. In fact, I have them on my truck for a daily driver. I lost a little bit of cornering ability, but nothing I can't live with. My truck never handled well anyway. You guys on the other hand may want to think about it a little more. You will notice the 90/10 setting.
The other thing that you may want to consider is heavier leaf springs. These,IMHO, would do more for you than anything IF the stock springs are even remotely weak. Mine have already started to bow upward. A good spring needs no traction device whatsoever. Just look at all those old Chryslers and how quick they were;most of it was all spring. My buddy just put a custom pair on his Dakota and went from 1.7s(on N2O) to 1.55(gulp) 60 ft. Mine are in the mail. It's also a much cleaner and stealthier look. I think slapper bars are so gawdy looking anyway.
