Trans over heating fix
I've got a question, does this pan come with a new style pick-up tube/filter? The reason I ask is, if you buy a deep sump pan for a motor doesn't it require a special pick-up. I guess what I'm getting at is, the deeper the oil is the bigger the waves are in the pan.If you have a standard filter in a deep pan you will run the risk of cavitating the pump. Why do you think ford has a different filter for the 4X4 pan.
Jeff, After a convertor drain, before start up you need to know how much the pan holds plus the whole system's capacity. If the pan holds 4 quarts, you better have 5 in the pan and open bottles ready to pour fast at start up. As soon as the motor fires up start filling fast, I have someone start it up while I fill. If you don't do it this way, you can balloon the convertor. If you know the system hold's 14 try to get 10 in fast, after that you can start checking the dip stick.

Yes, very important to start filling that puppy up AS SOON AS IT STARTS RUNNIG, a suggetstion, get a good funnel and some gallon jugs, (like milk or fruit juice comes in) and pour the fluid into these. If you start with 4 quarts in the pan and have two gallon jugs ready, you'll hit it about right, and add to the dipstick the last 2 quarts, (or however many) The stock 4x4 pan and filter from your dealer ($35.00) will make your capacity what an F-150 4x4 (California) owners manual says, I don't know what that is, we ship them with converters full and 165 Fl oz in the pan. This is just enough to deter rust, final fill is done at the aseembly plant.
Hope this helps

Darn, I forgot to mention, I know that minimum temp is a concern, and I dont' know what that temp is,(i'll look into this), but for what it's worth, when the temp in the fluid in the test stands in the plant gets below 125 F, they shut down. So, based on that, I'd be uncomfortable running any lower than that.

So is it best to just use the stock filter like isa 4325 did or should we get the 4x4 setup? When at Ford what would I tell them as far as what year and model so I would get the right filter. Would a 99 A4 powerstroke 4x4 work? Thanks for any info... Jeff

lost boost while at track Sunday once after making burnout. pulled to line left with 0 boost all the way down the track. Next time, I made burnout, shifted into neutral rev motor a couple of times boost was good, pulled to line, made good run with boost at max for full run. The pan is not a perfect fix, but close. ------------------

So far so good. Last week I pulled 7500 lbs of concrete and the temp got up just past 150 degrees. Normal driving is right around 125 degrees. At the track it never went above that. Good Luck.

Has anyone heard anything new on the trans. cooler that Sal was working on? I think that either the cooler or the pan change may solve my loss of boost problem. I just want to make sure I haven't missed something along the way.
Thanks
Thanks
I`m thinkin` both will be the way to go.
Now if I could get this Interceptor to quit settin' codes. I would be almost satisfied..Almost.
By the way Sal's chip and filter combo have made Me a happier individual. I DO recommend his products. Now if He would just let me in as a Sothern distributor and Champeen I could afford one of these trucks strickly fer racin'.

I installed the B&M pan last week and everything went good. As per the B&M instructions you are to still used the stock filter. I also reused the stock gaskets instead of the cork one that came with the pan.....they mention that too in the instructions. I put almost 10 quarts back in just for the pan change out. I think eventually I'll dump all the fluid(pan&convertor) and put in some Royal Purple Max ATF. Jeff
