New Cruise Control switch.

Just wanted to say that I did not get a notice from Ford that the new cc switch was ready, but because I have the trip to the Lightning Gathering in Orlando coming up I called my Ford dealer just to check on it and they said they have them. I drove by and they took five minutes to install it. It sure will come in handy on that 3 1/2 hr ride.

I got mine done a week ago. Has anyone else seen this thing? Man is it ugly. Looks like a huge mess of tape with a big blue stick hanging off it. I'm going to have to do something about the way it looks. cut off the sticker and try to cover it up as best as possible. Do all of them look like this?

I funny thing is the problem the C/C switch is not replaced just a fused harness that goes between the original harness and original switch. If you ask me this is a bandaide not a fix the problem was the switch so when it does go bad we will have to pay to replace it not Ford. All the harness does is kill the power to the switch so it does not ketch fire when it shorts out. NICE!!!!!

From what I have read, the "offending" part is the rubber diaphragm (ORANGE color in pix below) that is prone to getting brittle/cracking, allowing brake fluid to come in contact with the LIVE/ALWAYS ON CC SWITCH

PIC of updated unit in place (found in '03-up models)

Mine it definately not that switch it is still the old redish colored one. They just replaced the harness between the old switch and the old harness just places a inline fuse there. Here is the pic:

I havent seen the recall done that way before, maybe it was costing to much to replace the switches and they are now just installing a 5c fusable link.
