Checked the seat on my 2000 L. I can feel the bar only if I press extremely hard. I have never felt it when getting in or driving. I weigh 200 lbs and my seats are really comfortable even on long trips.

It feels like there is about 1 1/2 inches of padding above the bar. Maybe the 2000's were corrected due to the complaints from 1999 owners.

 

Not necessarily a '99 thing. I've pushed all over the side bolstering and can't feel anything to be concerned with. I've taken a 2000 mile road trip from SoCal to Oregon and back. No unusual discomfort (for 2k miles). I tip the scales at 170 lbs ( a "cracker a$$"??). Your guess is as good as mine...
