One wheel burnout question

Ok , I just recently noticed that if I take off w/ OD on I only get one wheel leaving its mark behind the truck..I hit the OD button to take it off and than I get the two wheel burn-out..I really never payed any attention to it before. Is it normal? Is the tranny designed to do that?

you might have a problem with one of the spider gears, or you could have a problem with one of your axles; put it up in the air and spin one of the tires with your hand, then spin the other tire, and see if they spin equally each time, if not pull the diff cover off and see if you see anything broken or chipped. Hope this helps, good luck

It seems that I need to change my fluid. What fluid should I use for the rear diff.? Specs? I misplaced my service booklet that came w/ the truck. If I change my fluid do I need to purchase friction modifier to add to the mix?

I only use OEM Ford Fluid in my rear.. IT;s really expensive. Make sure you add some friction modifier

I had the same problem with one wheel burnouts- I replaced the rear
fluid with synthetic gear oil and put in a bottle of friction
modifier- problem solved

It came standard with 75w-140 Motorcraft Synthetic Rear Lube, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to use some friction modifier

BTW: when I had my rear end re-build and 4.10 gears installed, the guy used carbon fiber clutches. He said he's never seen a pair fail. also, the stock ones have the friction material all the way aound them (kinda like a donut) and these carbon fiber ones were slotted to allow fluid to get in there. It didn't make production because of costs.

OH.. be warned, the fluid int he rear end STINKS!
