Post Fun with 91 Vette

Last night I got to run a 91 Vette a couple of times. The look on his face was priceless. Both times were from lights, both times pulled past him by the end of first, and had continued to put distance between us. He was a nice guy that a mutual friend "set up" for me by telling him "there's a truck outside that will smoke that Vette". He has a bunch of mods on the way in the mail and wants to run again when he's got them on, so I'll let you guy's know how that goes.

Cool

Just an FYI for you guys, some Corvette facts: 84: 205hp, 85-86: 230hp, 87-91: 245hp, 92-95: 300hp, 96 automatic LT1: 300hp, 96 6-speed LT4 330hp (conservatively rated). The 84 vette, was the 82 cross fire injected motor (not a very good performer). The 85-91 series were the tuned port induction (TPI) motors. The 92-96 was the LT1, except for the 96 6-speed which was the LT4 (there is no way from the outside to tell the difference between a 95 LT1 6 speed and a 96 LT4 6 speed). From the outside there is almost no way to differentiate from an 84-90, the front and rear ends changed on the 91-96 series. My 96 LT1 auto has ran a best time of a seriously traction limited 13.97, only mod was the hypertech, totally stock it ran a best of 14.154. I believe the TPI versions ran in the mid to high 14's. Beware of the LT4's if the driver knows how to shift, us Lightnings won't kill them.

Exclamation

98_SVT_Cobra, unless he is got an NOS kit coming in the mail, you will continue to beat him.

I had an '89 Corvette with lots of mods on it (same motor as the 91 - it was the L98 Tuned Port Injection). Has great off the line power, but hit 4000RPM, and the motor is done. It would just run out of power in the upper power band. Common complain about these motors. I was constantly getting beat by newer Z28's & Trans Ams in my Vette.

Good to hear you all are having fun, though!
