Post ESP----anyone?

Just got a letter from Ford today wanting to sell me an ESP for the Lightning. Did anyone buy one with their Lightning? The prices they quoted were as follows..
Premiumcare
5/60k 770
5/75k 1030
6/60k 930
6/75k 1155
Extracare
5/60k 625
5/75k 790
6/60 695
6/75 955
They have a 10 month no service charge payment plan. Either plan looks like it covers most things. There also is a 100 deductible. I'm thinking about jumping on one of the plans. I wish I had done it with my 96 Cobra. I had to bite the bullet for a tranny on that. Jeff

Cool

I think ya have 'til the end of your factory warranty to buy those extended ones. By then you would know if ya need it.

Hey guys, Sal here. Being that I work at a dealer, let me give some friendly advice on ESPs. First of all, if you buy one, DO NOT buy an aftermarket ESP. Get a Ford one. Aftermarket ESPs totally suck, and if you have any kind of expensive repair, they have to send an adjuster down to look it over and okay the repair. A lot of times they won't give the okay, and you're stuck paying for it. If you buy a Ford ESP, make sure you get a PremiumCare plan. That is the top one, and yes, it's the most $$$, but it covers the most and the lower plans don't usually cover the parts that commonly go bad after X amount of miles. The deductable is based on the time and milage intervals you choose. Also, if you don't buy the ESP withing the first year you have the vehicle, there is an extra $100 charge for it. Ford also now has "warrenty mainteance" plans that you buy and it gives you free oil changes, and service. Basically you get the service work described in the owners guide/service guide for free (well, you have to pay for the plan). They have them in 3000 mile and 5000 mile intervals. I hope this info helps. Oh yeah, and it doesn't hurt to haggle on the ESP price, they are not written in stone and many dealers will give you a good price.

The ESP prices you were quoted sound like the "list" prices. This is what my dealer quoted me. (The "warranty lady" at the dealership told me that the dealers in Florida are not allowed to discount warranties. She did, however, agree to discount the list on my LoJack unit by $150.)

So, Sal's right; you should shop around at other Ford dealers for the best prices. You can even do some of your price shoping via the internet. A few months ago I received an ESP quote from a Ford dealer in West Virginia. He offered the Premium Care plan for these premiums:

5/75 $745
6/75 $815
6/100 $1,195

He also mentioned that (like Sal said) the prices would go up by $100 if your truck has more than 12,000 or over 12 mo. from warranty start date. He also offered 10 payments via credit card @ no surcharge.

The quotes that I got were from something Ford mailed me so they are list prices. I think I will call my local Ford SVT dealer and see what kind of price I can get from them. I was not aware of anyplace on the internet where you could get a good price on a Ford ESP. Anyone know anything differant? Jeff

I have extended coverage on mine through Geico. It's added to my insurance annually, and it covers me for 7 yrs/100,000 miles. Believe it or not my insurance only went up like $50.00 every six months.. There is a couple catches though. Truck has to be under 6,000 miles and 11 months or newer.. I also have a $250.00 deductible, but it's worth it I think because it's so cheap.. So now I'm riding out the 3 year 36,000, and not worried about extended care warranties after that...

Has anyone bought a Premium Care ESP lately and what price have you paid? Are there any dealers selling these plans via the net?

Bought a 6yr/100,000 miler with truck for $995.00. wouldn't be without a Ford ESP. had three new cars over the past 7 years and each one was covered for repairs. never spent over $50.00 for ac repair, front CV joints or trans. repair. Sal is right, only Ford Warranty, others are hard to geal with at out of state dealers. All Ford dealers except Ford ESP.

Hey NJBOLT, dunno where in Jersey you're from, but up here in Northern NJ, I couldn't get a dealer to give me less then $1037 for the 6yr/75k.

Mabye they just don't like us. Hell, we're practilcally the asphalt kingdom around where I live.

Talking

For even more fun go read the thread "ESP" in Tips & Tricks under the Buyer's Corner.

Just my guess but there is a member "Ford man" who doesn't think ESP's are a particularly good buy....
