Hi guys, I'm going to be ordering a new L soon and was wondering if you had any words of wisdom for me. I've never ordered a vehicle before so I really need to know the procedure as well. I appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

 

I ordered my 2000 L with no options. For the 2000 the 6 disk CD changer and trailer hitch are standard (unlike the 1999). The soft tonneau cover is an option, but I heard that people were having trouble with them in cold weather because they would shrink a little and be hard to close. I decided to go with a fiberglass tonneau from a specialty shop, since this is not an option with Ford when ordering. If you are paying MSRP, or more, I know where you can order one for $29,500, and have it shipped to a dealer near you. Let me know if you want info on ordering one this way.

There is no real "ordering" an SVT vehichle, for the most part. The dealers get their "allotment" assigned to them in November, and most of them order the cars/trucks them with different priority levels for delivery throughout the year. Later in the model year, delaers are sometimes offered a few more vehicles, to round out the production runs, and they take these as built or as they are scheduled to be built, ie, Ford calls, says "I got a Silver Lightning and a Red Cobra, the L now and the Cobra being built in XXX days, ya interested?" and the delaer can take it or leave it. A dealer can order say 6 of their allotted 9 and hold off on the other 3, but if they wait to long they run the risk of losing them.
I "ordered" my L in the last week of Feb, and Greg Kein at Kings Ford gave me the original order sheet dated 4 Nov, 1999, priortiy 76. It'll be here first week of April.
BTW, if yer looking, Kings Ford has a White one now, sweet. If I wasn't so in love with Silver, I'd bring the little beast home, but ..Oh well, what's a few more weeks?

And another BTW, Lightnings only come one way, except for the cover there are no options, and I also understand the cover option is suspended until they work out the bugs in QC. I'm going with the Snug Lid-Bed Rug combo, aftermarket but dealer installed AT COST, cause I'm such a nice guy, I guess. I've Known Greg since I was 9, and he takes good care of me.
