Turn over engine manually ?

Hi guys,
How do i turn over my engine manually ? Im fixing my spark plug threads with the timesert kit. I gotta get both valves closed to repair it !!
Thanks
DirtyElbeirto

Instructions for timesert kit :
STOP check that the valves are not open.
Have someone turn the engine over by hand with a 18mm socket. Turn the engine over until it is going up on the compression stroke. Place your thumb at the top of the sparkplug hole at the same time to block off air. When you feel the engine compression stop pushing air, the pistion will be top dead center. Turn the engine alittle more to be on the downstroke, both valves should be closed at this point, and the piston should be out of the way.

Push it in gear...

Use a socket and long breaker bar on the front pulley.

This is really hard !!
Im busting my hands up trying to turn the engine over...
18mm socket doesnt fit on it quite right....
Little bit of play in it.. Keeps slipping off..
Any other ideas ?
I think pushing the truck in gear sounds alot easier.. Would that actually work ?

Pushing it was a joke.

If you can pull the plugs.

I don't know what size it is.

It is an 18mm socket.. but its really small. Not alot of material the socket can grab onto..
Pushing it might of been a joke.. But if it will turn the engine over, it works in my book. I dont mind fixing it in the middle of the street.
So will pushing the truck in drive turn the engine over?
Thanks

Next time just try tapping the key in order to slowly turn the engine over.

I was wondering why no one mentioned this.
