Post Mercon III ok?

I know our manuals say to use Mercon spec tranny fluid but is Mercon III the right number. I sent an e-mail to Royal Purple about the specs on their Max ATF syn. fluid. They replied I said it meet the Mercon III requirements but not the Mercon V. I know we don't used the V in our 4R100 trannies but I'm not sure about this Mercon III stuff. Thanks Jeff

I want to use Mobil Syn in the Tranny. Will a powerr flush get all the old fluid or should I manually drain the converter ?

I'm going to manually drain mine once the new bigger B&M pan gets here. I just want to make sure I get the right syn. fluid.

Ford swtiched over to Mercon V halfway through the 99 model year. We've had some that take Mercon III and some that take Mercon V. There is supposed to be a production date cutoff but we've even run into cases where the cutoff was wrong. Ford says to follow whatever the dipstick is labeled with. and just hope the dipstick hasnt been changed

I've had the question about the paower fluch come up before, and I checked with someone at the plant, the answer is yes, it pretty much removes all of the fluid from the converter, and I'm told it comes close enough.
