Rear end question. Rebuild or Detroit?

I've got a little over 40k on her now and the LS is only working sometimes. It never did work as great since the dealer resealed the rear end just before I went off warrenty.

Would I be better to have the clutches rebuilt or just go ahead and throw in a detroit locker from one of the venders? It's a daily driver and I do intend to keep it for quite a while. Thanks

First off it's not a locker that Detroit makes. It's still a limited slip. It doesn't have the clutch packs that the stock carrier uses. The Detroit won't wear out after time.

You can rebuild the stock carrier every 40K, or go with the TruTrac.
TruTrac will probably out perform and outlast the stocker.

You say potato, I say french fries. Yeah I was typing fast. A true locker would be hell to drive in anything but a straight line. Thanks.

Not true again. Detroit Lockers disengage around corners when you're not on the gas. A spool will turn both tires at the same speed under ANY condition.

Forget the rebuild, just get a Detroit Tru-Trac. I've had mine in for a while and I love it.

Thanks again folks. So where do I buy one? I could have sworn one of the SV
had them for sale before the holidays with free shipping to boot. I did a search and couldn't pull up who it was. Can anyone help?

Here is a little info on it:

Detroit truetrac

MHMCGILL, I had a TT in a car once. It was simply awsome! I'd not hesitate one second to dump the factory LS and go with one.

Unless its welded. I had a 67 fastback that the previous owner had done this to the 9 inch rear. But then again, he had also screwed the rear tires to the Centerlines . That was a fun car to drive.

Thanks for the link wydopnthrtl.
