Question FLOWMASTER QUESTION

I talked with Flowmaster today and they said that they had given up developing a special muffler for the Lightning as they did not think the demand would justify the cost. He did say they had a three chamber 3" single in, double out (2 1/2") that was 17" long, 10" wide, and 5" thick, PN 530552. Has anyone tried to install this on their truck and if so what did you think of the sound & performance gain (if any)?

Can`t remeber who tried this out, but I remeber that they were not satified. I believe they lost power going with the Flowmaster single 2 in 2 out.Seems like most have gone with two mufflers. If you want a single muffler, stay with the stocker IMO
Hope this helps

Thanks, I am looking for a better sound. This thing is entirely too quiet.

Cool

Put on a couple of 2 chamber Flowmasters, you WILL like the rumble. They had to turn them on their side to fit with the passenger side an offset inlet, center out and the drivers side was a center inlet, center outlet. They also crafted 2 new pipes to reach the tips as the original pipes are part of the muffler. BTW, they are 2 1/2" in and out with your tips being 3". The guys that did mine were great, they allowed me free reign under the truck the whole time they were doing it.

Cool

Cut out the stock muffler and run straight pipes...My wife doesn`t even want to ride with me anymore. I sounds mean and the cops haven`t paid any attention.

i put the 70 series on my truck and have noticed no loss of torque and great top end power.sounds great but as far as loudness goes mine is differant since i dont have converters on it.these mufflers are quitert han the 3 chambers on my 66 ford and if i had it too do over again i would stay with the 70 series.they dont have the drone at 2000 like the 3 chambers.i also had them put up side by side but they fit fine.

Eldebrock make a performer muffler that fits and is a dual inlet / outlet that can replace the stock muffler. I will show you mine this Sunday. Nice sound and better exhaust flow.

I tried the two in two out flowmaster at Mufflex. It sounded like crap at higher rpm's so Mufflex used my truck to make a two muffler flowmaster system with S/S tips that they now sell. I have the 3 chamber system but others have the two chamber and love it. I would get the two chamber system if I did it again because my truck could be a little louder. They have a picture of it at there website. http://www.mufflex-performance.com

I am trying the Delta Flow 50s when they come in at the end of the month. Supposedly they will not resonant in the truck. Keep you posted.

Well, I tried em all before settling on two 3 chamber 50 series. I did try the single flowmaster first, two in two out, but it was horrible at high rpms. Just couldn't handle the horsepower per my discussion with Flowmaster. Tried two 40s and two 50s and chose the 50s. Drove my muffler guy crazy, but like Wildman, he let me run loose under the truck while he worked. It was fun.
Mufflex uses the newer technology..delta flow, which allows him to get away with using the two chamber without them being too obnoxious to any milktoast passenger you might have...such as a wife or girlfriend!! ha ha. Good luck!

Does flowmaster make a mufflers that could be swapped with the Bassinis in the full Bassini system. Does anyone have specs on the Bassinis. I know I could get this custom done but it would be nice to find a Flowmaster that could fit right in place. (2-chamber)

Just recieved the Bassani system today. Mufflers are much bigger than my 2-chamber Flowmasters. Not sure what it will sound like, But I`m sure I`ll like it . Did a mock up assemly of the exhaust system looks Damn good. Can`t wait for the morning to do the install.....
