Dead miss at different speeds
Howdy all,
I seem to have a dead miss on my motor at pretty much any speed but seems to happen when RPM is about 1800-2000. It can cruising on highway or lugging around city streets.
I have had it since the truck was new way before any chips or anything were installed. My Ford mechanic originally said that it was the torque converter I was feeling so I tried to live with it but the past few weeks I have noticed that when going around the expressway loop around 60-65 or so, definitely after T. C. has locked up, that I can hear a burble from the exhaust...sounds just like a dead miss.
My intercooler doesn't seem to be leaking so I don't think any is getting on a coil pack.
Any suggestions? The truck is going in for service next week because I also have a rattle in the suspension, front and rear....sounds like loose brake pads rattling. Anyone else have either of these problems?
Sorry so long!
Later,
Collin

Hey Colin!
The intercooler leak is separate from the coil pack issue. The #4 pack (on the rear left of the engine, facing it) is the one that gets leaked on by a hose fitting on the firewall. It is apparently not a significant leak to where you'll notice a loss in the resevoir, but enough to wet the pack badly enough to cause it to ground out, leaving a green residue that is easily seen.
Hope this helps....

The leak on the #4 coil pack is from the heater core clamps, not the intercooler.

Is it just sound from the exhaust, or do you actually feel a performance decrease or miss? A few owners had exhaust gasket problems and this might be what you are experiencing.
