Steve/Sal:Discussion Time?
First, I appreciate everyone's efforts to maintain this board -- it is a valuable resource in every sense. I believe that the majority of board users comments should be used as a guideline for board usage, after all, we are the board. Vendor/Owners are a unique group that perhaps should be allowed more discretion than appears to be the case. I think this is worth a little discussion. I am glad we have the benefit of both Steve and Sal's time and energy on all of our behalves. Bulletin board politics are always somewhat touchy areas to discuss, but I think it is worth the effort.

Hate to say it, cause I love Sal’s comments and insight. BUT, without a doubt, Steve pays the bandwidth and server cost for this board. Steve I'm sure *hopes* to make it back with the revenue from the online store. If people are using his resource to compete against him then he hasn't a prayer of making it.
Try going down to your local store and setting up a space within their location to sell your competing product. I'd say you'd last about 2 minutes before you were arrested.
If Sal wants to comment on things, then Sal has every right to setup a BB just like this one, and take on the cost of bandwidth, the cost of the servers and software, and the configuration setup. It isn't cheap, and I respect what Steve is doing here.
I think Steve has been overall very liberal with everyone here on letting us talk about almost anything. The people here are great, and Sal’s comments are some of the best. I just have to agree with Steve on this one.
Just my $.02

maybe Sal should conduct his Q&A and thoughts over on the NLOC board, I'll bet the majority of us would migrate over there and call that home..
I think the idea of a board is to create a place where like minded people come and share ideas and experiences, if they happen to purchase some stuff-great. The whole idea behind these types of sites is to generate traffic and encourage purchases from a targeted audience.
I personally have benefited from the lightning specific forum and have given Roger about $2,500 woth of biz...I would have not done this if I did not get something of value at this site.
I realize that maybe Sal and his company have not advertised on this site, but his unique perspective have given this forum value that can not be interpeted by advertising dollars alone.
Maybe an exception is worthy when it comes to exceptional knowledge and participation by those who contribute by bringing in more people, and thus more $$$ to spend at the digital marketplace...

I'm not sure why this thread has even come up again. As stated many times earlier, Sal is more than welcome here...if he is here to futher Lightning discussions, not use the message boards to further his business.
Sal and I went back and forth via email on this and he chose not to contribute back to the site in the form of advertising. His decision, simple as that.
It would seem to me that if he chooses not to post here and uses me as an excuse that his primary motivation is to help his business and help himself, not help fellow Lightning owners.
Everyone is entitled to reach their own conclusion, but based on his message about being afraid to post here based on my reaction, my opinion is pretty clear.

Nathan,
Here is more information on it...

After receiving three emails from three different people, I decided to "take action."
Oh, and upon further review, it's been reopened.

Well, here is my two cents worth....I, like alot of you began exploring the web looking for Lightning sites only after I bought mine in June of 1999. I was posting to other Ford sites before that date when I owned my Cobra. One of the sites I really enjoyed visiting was the jsmartin board which still exists for
all SVT owners. I met and chatted with many of you long before I knew of the F-150 on-line board. I still visit over there, as well as here, even though I don't currently own an SVT product. (although I really do like that silver Lightning.....)
Anyway, I would like to take the time to thank our host for this forum, which he provides free to us all. Every time I sign on here, I learn something new about Lightnings, and many other things too. I have also purchased products from some of the vendors, and some who are not.....And I think we all know who we/you are. The point is this board is not mine, but I really do enjoy visiting here. I also think the reason this board runs so well is due to Steve's efforts to "police it" and keep us all on the straight and narrow, so to speak.
I, for one would really miss this corner of the web, and hope we can all support Steve's efforts to run it, as well at the same time support those members who have things we want/need.......But let's do it the right way, not on Steve's nickel.
Now, with that all said, I for one am still waiting for Sal to break into the 12's and prove to the world that Ford did indeed get it right this time, and that he is one hell of a Lightning Tuner.

Without Steve running this site.,It would very quickly turn into a board just like one of the others.Flaming and so on.I have never been on a site that is as clean and USEFUL as this site. All of the lightning owners help each other here.Without this board and steves $$ we would all suffer.
On a second note,I believe Sals information is some of the most useful information on this board. He helps in anyway he can.It seems as though he has withdrawn alot latley due to this controversy. It really is a shame.I believe he should be allowed to answer any question we have without feeling shamed.Just like steve,Without people like sal ,we would all lose.I say this ,knowing that sal couldnt even take the time to answer me on the "ask a vendor" section when he answered questions all around me.I am putting that aside and seeing things as they are.Sal is very informational an should be able to say what he wants as long as he is not profiting from the question.Sometimes the questions are right on the thin line of buisness/member so this is where most of the problems occur.Still steve pays the bills and maintains this site. His rules rule ,Thats that.
