Question Ebc Brakes

I know...I did the search, but what are good brakes? I dont need a 2000 dollar kit right now, I just want some slotted and good pads! My local parts stores dont carry anything, so I gotta know what and where.

Thanks

EBC Greenstuff are great pads and when combined with crossdrilled/slotted rotors they do a great job increasing brake system capacity

i am having great luck with my EBC greenstuff pads and EBC slotted rotor combo. Almost 10k on them and the pads still look new. Very little dust and very quiet too.

I'm at about 6K miles on my set of EBC greenstuff pads and slotted rotors. So far really good. Very little dust? your joking right? These dust more than any brake pad I've ever seen. I have to clean them off about every 100 miles or so, and I'm very easy on my brakes, the factory set lasted 45K miles and still had over 1/4 pad left when I changed them.

They are fairly quiet, Although I do get the occasional squeek, but not that often. But I wasn't expecting them to be completely quiet. On their website they said to expect some noise out of the green stuff pads.

Did you try Stan? He has rotors and pads.

All pads put out more dust with slotted rotors. The rotors slice away at them.

The question you need to ask yourself is what do you use the vehicle for and what do you want the upgrade to do?If it is mainly for just 'normal' street driving then the oem pad is fine you can upgrade pads to a better one that will last longer but it is also going to have side effects as far as first brake apply dusting squeeking and wearing rotors.Be honest with yourself and ask question to the rite people and they will point you in the correct direction.and don't always trust a vendor of brakes after all they are there to sell you their stuff.Stan

Agree - Best low effort braking (high friction coefficient, but worst dusting ever (dirty wheels in a day) and pretty agressive wear on rotors.

Prefer Hawk HPS, but they will dust more than stock.

I might go with a set of the hawk pad next time. Those are a little easier on the rotors, right? This is assuming I don't do any heat damage to the rotors with the EBC Pads.

I run ebc rotors and green stuff pads on my svt focus and I love them. I use stans rotors and hawk pads on my lightning, love those as well. They're both quality products.

What about cracking rotors with the cross drilling? Many say that is a problem. How many miles do you have on your rotors?

The EBC's are slotted and dimpled, not cross drilled.

It's also my understanding that cross drilling is ok if the holes are cast into the rotor when made. But very few makers do that, if any for the Lightnings.

Even though they are dimpled, they will still crack. My EBC rotors cracked after one season of FFW. Almost no street miles, but a couple hundred trips down the track cracked the ***** out of them. I was told part of the problem has to do with the rotors going from dead cold to stopping a 5000 lb truck going 120+ MPH.

Two probles at the drags:

1) If you are running a small diameter 15 or 16" tire on the front, less than 28" total height, the ABS will think the rear tires are sliding since they are turning fewer rpms at same speed. The ABS will then push most of the baking to the front tires to try to match rpm with the rear. Thus only the front tires are slowing the truck.

2) The smaller diameter rims allow less airflow around the rotors.

3) While the NAPA pads heat checked my original rotors badly, the EBC and Hawks have not. The aggressive wear I spoke of with the EBC's is just that wear. Instead of wearing out 2-3 sets of pads with a set of rotors, I suspect it will need rotors when the EBC's are done, just too early to tell for sure. The Hawks were very easy on rotors IF you use the HPS. Understand the Hawk HD's also wear the rotors quickly.
