a nice sunday drive
We'll, I have a story, but first a back ground, I live in the Philippines, and over here we don't have speed limits, and the cops don't even stop, or look at you at what ever speed you go, so here goes ...
This morning, a group of us here started to go on a sunday morning drive, around 6 am we meet, then we cruise to the south along the highway, it's heavy traffic along the highway, so lots of zig zag, but fun at high speed,I was using the lightning 405hp, my friend used my subaru wrx sti 350 hp, the rest were a porshe twin turbo 450hp, mitsubishi evolution 5 340hp, and one more subaru 250hp, and a honda type R 200hp, so we drove around 20 miles. We started all together on the toll booth, when all where ready we gunned it, my subaru that my friend drove was in front, the porche was in the back, then the evolution and I were going at top speed. I was at 220 kilometers, but they where pulling away, they where going at 260 kilometers, and just kept going. I felt the lightning top out, at 220 kilometers no more power, we kept the speed for over 30 min, but when we got to heavy traffic we where changing leaders, as I was in front, then the evo, then the porsch. We did this for over 20 more min. Man what a drive!!!
We plan to go on a longer drive next week, but got to find a way to make the beast, to go faster, so I can keep up with them.

I was looking at the wrx sti last year. I saw it on gran turismo and thought it was a cool car. Drove down to the subaru lot and VIOLA!! there it was, test drove it and fell in love. Unfortunently it was out of my price range at the time. You wouldnt happen to have any pics would you? I love those cars.

I am also a fan of the WRX in the Gran Turismo game. I'd never seen one before, and I know the game is far from reality, but it is very cool.
I think you're right that we DO NOT have the turbo version over here. I'll pass on the N/A 2.5l motor, even if it is an AWD car. They look pretty neat, though. Isn't it something like an Impreza RS over here in the states?
Sounds like you had a fun drive. Maybe I need to sell all my assets (except my vehicles!! and my family) and move over there.
What are the taxes like?

Jesus:
Boy does that bring back good memories!
I was privileged to live in Lima, Peru 1976 to 1978 as Spare Parts Manager for Volvo for Peru and Western South America.
Much like the Phillipines, there was no speed limit out of the cities and those inside the cities were routinely ignored as were stop lights and so on.
The PanAmerican Highway was still in pretty good shape and you could go as fast as your vehicle would go and no police at all.
Don't know about the PI situation, but in Peru the police were, shall we say,"approachable".
My worst favorite story, and I am not at all proud of it, was on the 50th Anniversary of Volvo. We had far too much Pisco Sours at the office and I insisted on driving home.
Came to a Y intersection and sort of fell asleep. A trucker gave me a blast on his air horn to wake me up and I made an abrupt right turn. Went off the road, over about a 10 foot drop and plowed into some lady's sugar cane field. Plowed up a 200 foot furrow and finally stopped.
I had to give the eventual Police Officer my 50th Anniversary watch to avoid going to jail, something you did not want to do in Lima, and pay about $50 to the landowner for the damage to her field.
I left Lima some months later, and my employees presented me with an honorary certificate of citizenship based on the fact that the $50 I paid should have purchased the entire estanceria (ranch) and as far as they were concerned, I was a legitimate Peruano.
Got to get to PI someday. Check with Ricky who is doing the Lightning/Explorer redo for some of my history with your part of the world.
Keep on 'truckin Mano

My brother was in Lima Peru for over 5 years, He was the GM for SGS in Peru and told me. The stories over there. and I have had the chance to try pisco sour. Man what a drink, I even have some here with me the mix type. But going back to the story the Police are the same but even better as, If that happened here. You just give the cop and if you gave him 50 he will drive your car out of the field then kiss your foot. Man life here if very good, tax is like none. The police leave you alone, and the speed limit is what your car can do. Ow Ya and for some one with a dollar earning it goes a long way here. the exhange rate is 41 to a dollar and the avarage salary here is 4 dollars a day so you can emagine it.

My partner has a evo5, and we have a shop that does mods on turbo cars, like the subaru and evo. I have had the chance to drive the evo4 all the way to the 6, but the car is great but i find it to reponsive. Compared to the subaru but dont get me wrong, Great car and easy to make it fast, with less mods and guess what there are left hand drive units all the cars here are left hand drive the same as you guys and we have converted some units from right to left you just buy the convertion kit that Japans sells it comes with every thing that you need. I am planning to get a new subaru and do the convertions or even a evo5.

Just a quick correction- the Porsche Turbo does not pack 450 horses, unless your friends have tuned them, which isn't very common. The fastest turbo (2001) is about 420hp. The '97s have 400 even. Sorry, just wanted to point that out.

Salamat jesus! I miss that San Miguel beer. The last time I was in the Phillipines I took some squadron members parachuting, missed the DZ and had to hitch a ride back on water-buffalo cart with a 12 year old kid contolling the buffalo (now that was scary!). An Aussie entered the One Lap with an Evo V last year and I was very impressed, especially on the wet track at Waterford Hills, Michigan. I can't imagine a Lightning in the Phillipines -- you must be a one man national club.

Small correction: taxes here isn't zero...Jesus it only seems that way cause you don't file. Hahaha...
On the contrary, taxes actually suck...200% or so on imported cars (except pick ups, and certain 4x2s), income taxes run up to 33% for those making $25K and over.
But other than that and the occassional traffic jam, life is good over here.
By the way Jesus, didn't you already sell the Subaru sometime back?
