Question Air Conditioner

Does the AC in the 99-00 Lightnings "cut out" at WOT? My buddy has a 95 and his AC will just about turn off when he gets on it. I'm not sure if this is because the engine draws so much power that the AC fades, or if it is designed to do this to boost performance, but I was wondering if the Gen 2s do it.

Normal part of most powertrain strategies is a wide open throttle cutout for the A/C.

Every other Ford vehicle I know of has it so im sure the L's do too

Reason is that the A/C causes drag on the engine and power loss- They figure if you are at WOT you need the power more than the A/C

On modern computer controled cars and trucks. The ECM shuts down the a/c system under accell for max pull . The a/c swicth on dash is just a input to computer saying please give me cold air. If computer has everything correct , it turns on the relay.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info y'all. I hvae never seen this before, so I was curious. I have a 91 Bronco (until my L comes in), which we all know is as aerodynamic as a D-9 Dozer, so WOT for me means 85mph and shaking your teeth out. Definately no AC cut-out for it! I'll have to experiment with my dad's Tahoe and see if Chevy's AC will do it.
