Questions and rumors f/2000
Greetings,
It is with much anticipation that I await the
2000 Lightning on order since December.
I am impressed with the knowledge everyone has of the L.
Presently I am developing my "wish list" for enhancements. My question is, has anyone had experience with a chipped truck and passing the enhanced emmission test?
In Massachusetts we have just gone to the 'dyno test' where the vehicle is actually 'driven' on a test stand while emmisions are checked under load. I believe CA has had a similar emmission test for some time.
I know that the two most popular brand of chips most mentioned have a stock/enhanced switch, but I have seen some posts of reported enchanced performance even with the chip on 'stock'.
Will I have to pull out the chip to get a sticker?
As far a rumors go, I have been told that production delays were due to C.A.F.E. compliance and that Ford could not produce low MPG vehicles(read V-8 trucks) until the average became more favorable- which was after the Start of Y2k. Production has started, but it is a 'ramp up' situation to full production, as the L's share an assembly line. Now my guy tells me that there is a transmission shortage which should be cured in a few weeks. All this seems to jive with other Ford vehicles I have on order, which have big V-8's and A/T (i.e. there are few V-8 HD vans to be had up here for example)
Any way this is from a national lease company who has ties to the Ford zone office. It's all rumors as only those who run the show-know.
Thanks for your input.
It's a bust without thrust,
Franko

Has anyone checked out the brochure for the 2000? I'm pretty sure they come with color matched mirrors and a in dash cd player rather then the 99 tape deck. I might call the dealer and see if they have any 2000 brochures. Any comments?

Pacecar18,
Went to the dealer today to finalize the deal & trade-in on my L. Needless to say, they are really trying to 'jack me' on my trade, (imagine that!). I did however get a 2000 brochure. It is better than the 1999 brochure. I can't recall whether they show a pic of the dash or not, sorry. They did list the 6-disc changer as standard equip., but did not mention the in-dash player. The mirrors are color coordinated
Sorry for the long post.
Later, Jake...

So Baby Jake, does the exhaust still exit out the side, or did they route it to the rear?

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
'92 Civic Si, Centerforce Dualfriction clutch, no front license plate.
'84 Alan Record Carbonio, Aerospoke wheels, Sugino AT crankset, Campy brakes (I think, hard to tell underneath the protective coat of grease and dirt).
'98 Honda "Harmony" 5.0 h.p. mulching mower, stock.
2000 silver SVT Lightning on order (the lawnmower will have to go).

When I called SVT they said it was still out the side which is what the pictures show on the 1-page brochure. I haven't seen the 16-page one yet.

FYI
Page 14 of 16 page 2000L brochure states in fine print:
"Following publication of this catalog, certain changes in standard equipment, options, prices, and the like, or product delays, may have occurred which would not be included in these pages. Your Ford Dealer is the best source for up-to-date information. Ford Division reserves the right to change product specifications at any time without incurring obligation."
IMHO, the F-150 Online Message Board is the best source for up-to-date information. My Ford Dealer generally gives me either no information or mis-information. It seems inconceivable that FMC, which is supposed to be providing a computer to every one of their employees, cannot, or will not, update their SVT Internet site.
One more thought about Ford and the Internet. I would like to be able to purchase parts for my Ford vehicles directly over the Internet, instead of having to go through a Ford Dealer parts department. The ability to do this would save me time and money, and Ford could also profit by eliminating some of the middlemen (or reduce the cost of the parts).

""It seems inconceivable that FMC, which is supposed to be providing a computer to every one of their employees, cannot, or will not, update their SVT Internet site.""
I agree 100% with the points about the internet site and the ecommerce they are losing out on by not joining the Internet age. SVT said the site would be updated by 3/1. Preaching to the choir here.

Thanks, B.J. I think the side mounted exhaust is so cool. Do you L. owners find that the exhaust dumps a lot of crud on your rear wheel? I am willing to do some extra cleaning, just for the cool factor.
Do you think we will be able to order the same consoles for our 99 Ls?
