what coil spring rate?
i am looking to set my truck up for open track events. i am looking at 1100lb ruslow coil spring for the front. is this a good spring for open track events, keep in mind i will be doing some auto x events also. the truck is street driven but not my daily driver. thanks
That's what I use. Pretty freakin rough on city streets, though.
Also, you MUST upgrade your shocks. The Bilsteins will melt before your eyes fighting such stiff springs.
Finally, unless you also stiffen the rear springs, I would expect significant understeer (which you might like on an autocross course in a front-heavy, torque heavy truck).
You might want to try upgrading to Hellwig anti-sways with no spring changes first. Since I did my springs and anti-sways at once, I never had the opportunity to feel the anti-sways alone. That might be the best setup for auto-x.
I got bored with auto-x in hurry. I'm sure it would be more fun in a light, low-slung car, but the Lightning just does not seem like the right tool for the job. No matter what you do the the suspension, quick transitions are not its forte, so auto-x just plays to its weaknesses. Road racing plays to its strengths.

should i go with qa1 shocks then? i had planned on hotchkis leaf springs for the rear with upgraded shocks. would these be a good match for the front?
i saw where ruslow springs have a 1.75 drop and the hotchkis leafs are a 2.5 drop. i would like for the truck to set more even. i have jdm 2" drop shackles now and it sets almost level. could i use a similar drop shackle w/the hotchkis leafs? thanks for the help tim.

QA1s are about the only game in town, although I have some concerns about their durability on a 5,000 lb, stiffly sprung truck.
Considering that Roush is out of the Gen2 suspension business, Hotchkis is also the only game in town for leafs. You have two spring choices - the old, stiffer springs (which I have) or the newer, less stiff springs. I would choose the less stiff springs.
You can use any shackle on any leaf, so ride height should not be an issue.
