Interceptor Sacked and Benched then Cut!
as i relayed yesterday, my interceptor was going thru it's learn period, and shifting harder than i set it over the weekend. well last night on the way home, it went from whiplash type shifts to "being rear ended by 18weheeler shifts", so violent that it knocked my duct taped superchip loose and i was dead in the water. pushed the chip back on firmly and burned my hand, the pcm was that hot. at home got under it to check to see if my settings moved, they did not. so i'm punting the interceptor back to it's maker and looking for new gadgets.
Sorry to here you were hit by a 18 wheeler!
I have not had any problems with mine, seems to be holding its own. Always looking for new toys for this animal, let me know what you find if anything.

What is this new gizmo you guy's are talking about? A module for changing shifts electronically or manually? Thanks

Hmmmm....Picking mine up Wednesday to try it. I plan on extending the harness out enough to adjust it from under hood.
Q: Mr. BBQ, You were running this in addition to a chip right? I am curious if the combination of the two would be causing those "18 wheeler" shifts. If not, did the condition just get progressivly worse?
Thanks for the info......

yes i was running it with the first superchip version, and it did get progressively worse, what really concerned me was the heat generated in the computer, maybe conflicting signals, i don't know. felt like a dead short w/no fuse. today, i ran it pretty hard and felt the chip/pcm for heat, sans interceptor, and there was none. so that might be an easy way for you guys to check, if it feels like it might be giving you problems.
Anyone try the B & M electronic shift controller. I know a couple people running it and it is working great so far. Not sure how it would be in a Lightning.

MRBBQMAN,
How has the tranny been shifting since removal of the Interceptor?
Pacecar18,
I have tried the B&M electronic shift kit on my 1998 F-150. It worked fine until the day I sold it and wanted to remove, The truck still continued to shift firm even after reseting the computer. Some how it affeceted the transmission. As far as I know B&M doesnot offer one for the L`s.

Spiro, back to normal (superchip better than stock) shifts immediatly upon removal, almost like it amplified the signal, each shift harder than the last. tried switching superchip to position 1, and no difference.
Thanks MRBBQ.
This is why these BB's are so great. Obviously, your experience with it was bad, and we can all learn from it.
Thanks for being the guinea pig (I've done it myself numerous times on a couple of the other vehicles I own) and relaying your honest experiences!

Hey Lightningkid
Let me know when you get it in, I'd like to see how it shifts first hand before doing it myself. I sent my chip back in and I'm hoping it comes back the way I'd like it to shift!
BTW I ordered my BFG DR's and will prob. pick them up next week.

Spiro, it's a great idea, and i hope you guys that have dealt with them in the past, can convince them to get us something "Lightning" specific. i guess i was asking alot using a generic 95&up "ford" control in conjunction with a superchip that is also controling shift pressure beyond stock to be completely troublefree.
