Question Belt Slipping?

I was doing some practice lanches today on a lightly traveled road when I noticed a burning rubber or plastic smell. I remembered some posts from last summer about this problem and looked them up. Most people seemed to believe that is was from a sliping drive belt but the topics died without a solid answer. Bill Murray said his problem went away at 5000 miles . Lightning Bob had the same problem but never said what finally happened. Any updates or anybody else have this problem?

Jack/L2S:

No solid answers, but shared experiences.
After installing the PSP filter, I also get a strange noise on startup for the first 10 seconds or so until the revs drop from the initial higher rpm warmup. To me, it sounds like a power steering pump whining or cavitating like it was low on fluid. After many weeks, I think it is just air noise going into the filter at a relatively higher speed than normal idle.

Due to the winter gas thingie here in Atlanta, I had not punched out my Moby really hard for about 2 months/2000 miles and in fact had switched my chip/s off.
Having gotten the Bassani installed 2 wks ago I could not resist 4-5 full bore runs from 5mph or so to 90 or so. On each occasion, I got the burning smell again. Due to intake/exhaust/blower noises, there is no way to hear if the belt is actually slipping or not. As the belts still look like brand new, I figure I will live with it. Dealer hasn't a clue. Says there are no TBs on the subject.

Truck got a new belt for its 10 mo birthday at 5400 miles. Actually a pleasant experience at dealer. Just showed them the black marks on pulley. Also left with a folder of promos (thanks to CA, I knew what to ask for)

There are no unusual sounds when this happens. But I do remember the first time I noticed the smell was just after I installed my Superchip. At the time I thought it was tire smoke because my windows were down. One detail I forgot to mention was that I neglected to turn off my AC before the runs. Could This be the problem?

I do not have the smell.I DO have the noise during start up.I have a downs air intake.I thought it was some thing wrong but now i dont.To me it sounds like the blower is either relieving vacuum or storing it.When i did my chip i took the battery out and i took off two vacuum hoses that went to an air box under the battery. When i did ,it let out alot of vaccum. It almost sounds like a bearing noise but it is not.Probally just vacuum. The motors do seem to depend on alot of vacuum.Wait till they are a few years old and lines start breaking. It will be like trying to get a quadrajet carb in tune!! I really do think doing away with the fan will give us some serious juice. My truck is a dog while the fan is on.Im going to electric. That way at the drags you can cool your motor while waiting to go.

It might just be the fact that your other filter was muffling the sound and now with the psp you can here the supercharger more.

On my Syclone after replacing the air filter I could hear my turbo much easier than before. Just a thought.
