Tires!!!!Tires are the first thing, after learning how to drive on track. After all think of it this way.You can put anyone off the street into a race car and more than likely if you put the race car driver in their car,the rc will still beat them.also tires are what ultimately what controls how well the vehcile sticks to the track.THEN start buying suspension items. But get the feel for whether you are going to like it before you put tons of $ into itand I do mean $ but if you do like it you will never look at a turn on the street the same! Sounds like a good plan for road racing, but for autocrossing, stiffer springs may not be the way to go.

To follow up on Stan's comment, race tires would be the single most important improvement for auto-x, followed closely by shocks, then anti-sways.

But for road racing, and assuming that you are a novice-level road racer, I would go with your plan above without race tires. Street tires will make you a better driver, cost less, and offer a greater margin for error. The same race rubber that will last you a several autocross events might be gone in one open track weekend. And they will mask the shortcomings in your driving, as well as not providing as much notice that you are about to swap ends. Finally, race tires are extremely limited and expensive for the stock wheels.

BTW, brakes are not in your above post. But you will not be able to road race without them. Even if that means leaving off some suspension mods, you have to address the brakes!

thanks tim and stan,
i have experience in both fields through my napd training for the police dept. i know the police crown vics are a far step from our Ls but i have used my stock suspension L against our crusiers in some yearly training (i won).so i know i will really love getting more involved in the sport.
tim yes i forgot to list the brakes. until i get the funds for a brembo kit what other brake mods can i do to get started? thanks guys for the quick reply.

braided stainless brake lines, better pads and good quality slotted rotors (aka not rotorpro) and maybe some ducting to help keep them cool

Most diffently stay away for the race tire or even the R compound dot tires run a set of yoks or per. They will work for the street as well as the track. And will inform you that they are getting close to say we give up!!
