.030" Overbore or not?

I know that the two standard overbore sizes for our blocks are .010" and .020", (approximately .25mm and .5mm).

Has anybody had personal experience with a .030" overbore? I am having trouble accepting that it makes the walls too thin (.005" per side) or that it creates a heat transfer problem though I suppose if we were on the ragged edge that might be the case.

I have a fully prepped block that needs to be opened up .006"-.007" and it will be a perfect .030", hate to throw it away.

I guess the first thing to do is check on ring availability.

you could sleeve it but you risk distorting the block when you machine it for the sleeves.

use it as a coffee table base or lamp table in your rec room.

I did a .030 motor for a guy up in this area with JE pistons and it runs great. No overheating No noise. The block was one that was in my truck for awhile at .020....I raced it a few times and when I checked it the bores were distorted so we had to take it .030. He doesn't beat on it as bad as I did.

PS...it is also an older non NVH block.

it depends of the boost or use that you are going to give to that engine.

I've heard that .030" will be more dangerous for cracking a cylinder wall due to the pressure mainly at higher boost. I have not actually seen or heard of such an occorance though.
