Thumbs up Hoosier Racing Tires

Ok..

I know the Hoosier Racing tire is more for autocross type racing.. but has anyone tried a set of these on a strip??

They make them in 335/35/z18s SHould squeeze on to a lightning rim without a problem...

I really want something with some bite... but this is the only competition tire I can find in an 18... and I want to mount them on some lightning rims so it looks stock..

any input would be appreciated..

you can see the tires at tirerack.com.. 280 each.

Brad

Hi Brad
I hate to rain on your parade but I think you may be asking for trouble with trying to put that 335x35 on the stock Lightning wheel. I went to order my tires for my widened Lightning wheels today and the Goodyear recommendation for their 315x40 is an 11" wide wheel. The rep. had a good laugh when I told them that I was putting them on a pickup truck
PS. The Goodyear tire is 28" tall. From the size you stated for the Hoosier it should be about 26" tall.

They also have a 305/30ZR18... now I know this will fit on a stock rim... 295 to 305 isn't really a differnce..

I just want to know if anyone has every tried these tires.

They look to be a pretty soft compound as the UTQG rating is only a 40. The stock F1 GS's are a rating of 300. So the eagles last 7.5 times longer than the hoosiers.. IE the hoosier must be a soft compound tire.. or in my half drunk state am I being illogical?

They will fit just fine and are verrrrrry soft. Good on wet streets and dirt, will not last long on hard surfaces even without spinning them. At best you might see about 10-15000 miles out of them. Inspection of tires at about 8000 mile will reveal less than 3/32 tread, so it would not pass inspection here in Texas.

Guys, (if I remember right) the tire and rim assoc. does not recommend using anything larger than 295mm on your standard lightning wheel.I will verify this Monday, as I have this book/manual on my desk at work.
I would not use anything over 295, as you may be putting yourself at risk.
The tire and rim standards are made by Tire and Wheel experts, who work in the tire and wheel field, so I would venture to say they may know what they are talking about.
Remember this is a truck, so pay attention to the load ratings, more so if you tow.
It may fit, but that does not mean it is the right/safe thing to do.

10k miles? fine by me.. I'm thinking this is a friday night camaro hunting tire and a drag tire for the strip.. nothing more. I was going to buy a second set of rims to mount these up on.. keeping the eagles as my daily driver tires...

2000 Silver bullet. 295, 305, what's the differnce??? Tires can very that much on the same size tire from manufacture to manufacture, so I'm not worried about putting a 305 on a stock rim. This isn't for towing.. or anything else... I want something sticky for hunting kills and running the strip WITHOUT giving up the stock appearance.

Any other comments???

Brad

Question

Just wondering wyldman.. did you not know these were being made? They have been on tireracks web page for about 3 months now... just being up here in cold cincy I hadn't been thinking of strip tires yet..

I think asdeman and myself have worked out a deal on his 2 good rims and 4 tires.. so now I have an extra 2 good rims to mount hoosiers on.. once I finalize that deal I'm going to order a pair as well...

Cool

Brad,

Yes, I knew these were available, but I was trying to get Goodrich, Nitto, Bridgestone, Michelin, or Hoosier to make us a real 18" drag radial.

So far I have had no luck w/any of them. I have a set of 16" T/A DR's, but they aren't as consistant as I'd hoped they'd be. I am resorting to the Hoosiers as another approach to trying to get some launch consistancy out of Beastie.

Maybe one day the tire manufacturers will start taking us seriously. In the mean time, I do what I can to find a solution. I'm stubborn that way, I don't give up very easily.
