It is sooooooo annoying but it does it once in a while.

Sounds like it's comming from the lower part of the fire wall .
It does sound like it could be coming from around where the headers are, but I can't really figure out if it is or where exactly it's coming from when it's only lasting for not more than 10 seconds at a time usually. If it is the headers.. why would this just start now out of nowhere? I feel like this is gonna turn into something that's gonna be constant eventually, because it's starting to happen more often now. If I'm sitting in the truck when it happens, I can feel the vibration at my feet and it's starting to sound like there's a troll sitting in my engine bay playing a trumpet or something.

I realize it's close to impossible to diagnose something like this on a message board, but thanks to those who actually provided some help.

LA....I will absolutely garentee that it is your idle air control valve. (The little solenoid on the side of the intake plenum) I have seen this a million times...thousands in the past couple months...and just replaced mine in fact. Part number CX-1867 YL3ZZ-9F715-AA (atleast thats it for a 2000 L). I'm tellin' ya, thats it, if not I will send you the 79.02 for it!

The next time it happens, open your hood and see if its coming from the intake.

Thanks Aaron... Amazingly it hasn't done it since yesterday morning, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Oh well, I'll let my warranty pay for whatever it is... because I'm not.

Thanks, but I was never really into hummers.. they've always seemed too wide for me. My parents always said they were gonna buy an old school hummer, and then the h2 came out and my mom fell in love with that... but my dad is like me and keeps saying he's gonna buy one for my mom and still hasn't.

Leeann, check your blower bypass, could be sticking. My does it some times and it is a very loud humming sound. Just watch the rod coming out the vacumm cannister part of the bypass. rev the motor and watch for it to move. You will be able to see it stick for a moment. it will also make the noise when it sticks. Mine has done it on start up and also after making a pass.

Check your intercooler pump.. Mine was making a hmmmm sound when I came to a stop or I could hear it when letting off the gas pedal.. It sounds like something electrical is cutting in and out.. The sound was coming from around my headers also.. My pump intermittently was cutting on and off and it sounded like a humming sound..

Good luck!
